Cardinals (Thompson) vs Brewers (Miley): 9/27/23, 6:40pm

On a serious note, I would expect CC to still play to win this game tonight. Players did not sound thrilled with the three game losing streak and I don't think CC wants to coast like we did a bit in 2021. Maybe sit Yelich against the lefty, but otherwise play your usual contingent of righties, let Miley go the full length (he isn't starting in the Wild Card series), and use your "A" relievers if necessary (Devin hasn't pitched in almost 10 days).

No. But after last night, I'd say the chances are higher that the Cubs will miss the playoffs entirely given the Marlins' schedule.

Not out of the water but the Cubs are going to need to burn through starters for the next few days, maybe until the end of the season.

By the way, anybody catch the screw job the Mets pulled on the Marlins? Because of their slack-ass groundskeeping, the Marlins play a doubleheader today and therefore shift their starter back a day, which impacts their final game of the season.

Marlins are 3-7 against the Mets this year. And who knows what the doubleheader will do. I bet they hate having to play that.

The Brewers have shown that they can score 16, 4, 1, 1 runs in four consecutive games. I don't believe much in momentum from game to game, but I would feel better if they would score some dang runs in these next five games.

Was at the game last night - and while it was fun to see the Cubs lose and the Crew win the NL Central - the offense was really lackluster. The Brewers take a lot of walks as a team - but I don't think I've seen a game where they watched first pitch strikes more than yesterday. My wife and I were saying 'strike looking' right before the batters it was so frequent. I even heard people around me making comments. It just put the batter in a hole. This led to some of the hitters getting really defensive and making weak swings just to make contact. Or they'd get two strikes on them and swing at junk. That didn't work out well.

Oh well, new day.

Unfortunately my bed time came before the cubs meltdown, but it was a pleasant surprise to wake up to that score, since the Brewers comeback I was hoping for didn't happen.

Is this the first time we've clinched on a day we've lost?  The other clinchers I seem to remember us winning all the games to clinch, with the somewhat exception of the 08 wildcard where we still needed a Mets loss after we won.

Also.   Not expecting much today.   Older pitcher after a big night of partying.    It might not be our best performance

Yep, I'd be surprised if they play well tonight, but I think moving forward they will try to get in a groove.

I actually think they win tonight. Despite the celebration, they didn't sound thrilled with how they'd been playing the past couple days and look eager to get back on the winning train.

Josh Hader News:

Josh Hader, asked his thinking behind not making himself available for 4 outs: “It’s the situation that we were at.” Asked to clarify, he said, “Are we in the playoff race?” Technically, yes, but it would take a miracle, to which he said, “You guys want me to do everything.”

Feel bad for him (oh wait, nah—he’s about to get the bag).  But at any rate, glad it isn’t my circus anymore.  We have enough on our hands putting out clubhouse fires after the Donaldson addition.

So are we assuming that Burnes(for sure) along with Woody and Freddy are done pitching until the playoffs? It’s kind of an interesting choice.

Devin needs to pitch at least once or twice more imo……he hasn’t been used in awhile.

There is absolutely nothing else newsworthy in Milwaukee right now so I'm just counting down the minutes until this game starts.

It was nice of bucks to wait until brewers clinched

I would guess Burnes, Woody and Freddy each start and throw a few innings on their regular turns Thursday, Friday, Saturday with five days rest each.

That would line them up on four days rest each for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday of the Wild Card round.

Burnes still the listed pitcher for tomorrow. I doubt that changes and I doubt he’d want to skip given last year’s arbitration proceedings. He’ll want to try to get to 200ks at least, even though he’ll likely fall just short of 200 innings.

The only thing that is odd about that though is he’s been pitching on mostly 5 days rest……..all of them have…….id almost prefer Burnes pitch tonight for 4 or 5 innings and then have him with 5 days rest for Tuesday……ditto for Woody and Freddy.

Wait, so the fears of this division coming down to the Cubs series and even the last game of the season were grossly overexaggerated?

I wouldn't say "grossly":   If a Cub had caught a popup while we're losing 3 straight....  It would get a bit itchy.

BUT, the good news is that IT DON'T MATTER NOW!! And I don't care who we play.  I just hope we start hitting again.
