NL Wild Card Game 1-Diamondbacks (Pfaadt) vs Brewers (Burnes): 10/3/23, 6:08pm

I can see Owens over Tellez for positional versatility and speed. Plus, as much as I love Rowdy, he really hasn't been good this year. The only thing he has over Miller is power.

Miller over Rowdy is a head scratcher

Miller on the roster at all makes no sense to me...he's been useless since Memorial Day. Rowdy's been bad all year, but he at least has power as a PHer

Winker I understand as I trust him to give a professional AB...

I guess Joey's in the lineup to kill that bumblebee at home plate he's been swinging at all year.

Technically Joey isn't in the lineup. He's simply on the roster. Likely to serve as a pinch runner and/or defensive replacement late in games. If he starts any games this postseason I will be very surprised.

So we haven’t been an ESPN household for many years, but have watched regular season games on Fox Sports/Bally Sports Wisconsin.  Now I’m up against it for this week, since it’s all ESPN2.  I’m doing a free trial for Hulu and ESPN+, but I’m not seeing if that covers me or if I need a different package.  Any knowledgeable posters out there who can offer any guidance for navigating the labyrinth that is modern sports streaming?  It would be much appreciated!

YouTubeTV has a free, 21-day trial for new users. I don't believe ESPN+ has the WC games. The YouTubeTV option also gives you the NLDS, should this series go well.

Sling also has a deal where it's 20/month for its ESPN package (which will include TBS for NLDS games).

I watched enough years of bad baseball to know that you never take a postseason gameday for granted. The build-up, the excitement, the abject terror of defensive half-innings, there's nothing else in sports that compares.

So, enjoy it. Enjoy it in all its horrific, painful glory. The Brewers won the division. They had a successful season. They're in great organizational shape, and none of that will change after this beautiful dice roll. Just getting to be part of the dance is what this sport is all about.

That being said, I hope we win the whole f----ing thing.

ESPN2 is on the free channel lineup at https://streamwink.com/class/free-channel ; available to all except @TURBO as far as I can tell!  :laughing

Yeah, I really don't think CC will rotate lineups every day like in the regular season. Maybe a Turang/Monasterio platoon, but that's about it.

This post says it all!  (especially:  " the abject terror of defensive half-innings," 😅 )

Remember last year when we weren't even in it, and the lowly WC Phils almost did it all? (Unless I'm remembering another year or universe, which sometimes happens. 🙁 )

Anyway Cool Hand makes the point!

I'm thinking the Hulu free trial should cover it, at least with the ESPN+? I hope so.

Does Rowdy have power? Dude has 3 XBH since coming off the IL and 2 of them were in August. In September he had 1 double, a 34 wRC+, a .216 SLG, and a 31% K-rate. Rowdy just sucks now. Winker over him makes plenty of sense when you consider Rowdy isn't hitting for power or getting on base anymore.

I will happily eat my shorts if and when Winker/Miller win this series for us. Until then I am sulking big time.

We are trying to bring pre all star break brewers back.    Why?    I have no idea

If we win this series, I think we ride the momentum to a deep postseason run.

If we lose this series, the Counsell era is going to largely be remembered for regular season success and postseason failure.

Why Wiemer over Mitchell? None of the Dbacks starters that we’re facing are lefties. What am I missing?

My guess is that his shoulder still isn't 100% he was 1 for 7 since he came back and sure hasn't played much.

This post was deleted as factually baseless. But could have SWORN I saw Mitchell's name on the roster!!! Honest, I did!

I think Mitchell is going to be a big positive factor for us, in one way or another. So get him up to the plate.

I hope that even if the analytics say I'm  wrong, the bizarre realities of baseball will show that the analytics are wrong.

Someone hasn't been paying attention...

And remembered by me for payroll inequity failure of the MLB -- hence Counsell and Stearns going to the Mets!
