I'm pretty perplexed on this one. Bauers' had solid underlying numbers last year but has not been good in his MLB career. Brewers must have been lower on Avina than I would have imagined.

Although they differ in the transaction type, this reminds me of a Ryon Healy type move, guy who’s been okay to below average and he continues to be that way.

must have been really low on Avina.

The more I think about it, the less I understand it. Why didn't we just add Hiura to the 40-man roster before he declared minor league FA instead of trading for Bauers??

Nothing like adding a guy that couldn't hit in 2018, couldn't hit in 2019, couldn't hit in 2021, etc., etc., etc. Just not a fan of guys that can barely hit their weight.

Yea this one I don't get. I see his underlying metrics are pretty good so maybe they think they can unlock something with him. He is out of options so he has to make the roster. How is his defense at 1b?

In 1364 career innings at 1B he has -2 DRS, 2.3 UZR/150, and -3 OAA. Better than Rowdy but overall pretty average over there.

Why would we want a non hitting outfielder when OF is probably the least of our needs?  C'mon man.

Gross.

A needle moving trade if ever there has been one.

anther boring trade, I assume he was another non-tender candidate and the brewers wants to take a look at him at 1st.

There is nothing boring about acquiring Jake Bauers.

God, so we just have to have another guy like Rowdy on the roster, but we can't afford Rowdy, so we go out and get another Rowdy for cheaper?  Talk about setting the bar low, REALLY low.

They must really think Avina is pretty much worthless and is never going to amount to anything.......ever.

Bauers is probably as shocked as anyone.

Again, gross.

We must really believe that Bauers is about to get better.

I’m guessing this also pushes us closer to trading Mitchell or Perkins.

They were similar last year, sure, but 2018-22 Rowdy at least put up 1533 PA of 104 wRC+.

Bauers has 1398 PA of 83 wRC+ in his MLB career.

Brewers must really like their lower level OF depth to deal all of Mendez, Avina and Sanchez over the last few days.

So the Brewers traded players for the opportunity to pay Bauers $2m to be below replacement level? Good thing that money wasn't wasted on brining Counsell back.

I don't like this trade. Avina may not be destined for greatness, but he seemed to have a legitimate shot at one day being a big-leaguer.

Jake Bauers has not been good. If he had options, then fine, stick him in Nashville, but I would be really disappointed if has a 26-man roster spot out of Spring Training.

Yeah, would be awesome if those 97 PAs with the Yankees AAA affiliate where he hit 359/485/897 (227 wRC+) with more walks than strikeouts was indicative of some kind of change in approach/swing/true talent level, but this seems like kind of a steep price to pay to try and find out,
