As the winter has come down to the last few weeks, do you think that the Phillies have any regrets on signing Nola for 7/172, considering how the market has gone? It is by far the biggest combination of years and dollars this side of Chavez Ravine.

Keston Hiura hit a grand slam to help lead the Tigers to a 9-6 win over the Blue Jays on Friday.
Hiura is doing everything he can to make the Tigers’ 40-man this season, but it just might not be enough. He’s hit home runs in two of his past four games with both of those bringing home at least three runners. The 27-year-old is likely to be stashed in the Tigers’ farm system, but he showed some promise last season with the Brewers slashing .226/.316./.449 with 14 home runs and 32 RBI in 266 plate appearances.

Tigers reassigned INF Keston Hiura to minor league camp.

Huira finished spring camp going 10-for-31 (.323 AVG) with two home runs and nine RBI — one of those home runs was a grand slam against Toronto. The 27-year-old infielder finished with an impressive .966 OPS during the spring, but with the Tigers’ infield depth, Huira will likely spend the majority of his 2024 campaign in the minors.

Only a 23.5 K% for Keston this spring too, which is more in line with his AAA strikeout rates from the last couple years.

Hopefully he rakes in Toledo and gets an MLB shot somewhere this year.

Lorenzen sign for 4.5 million with the Rangers today. I was against signing another starter but at 4.5 that seems like highway robbery. If that is all it will take to get Clevinger I would be all in.

I was surprised at that number too and thought I'd have for sure done, as long as I read correctly that its a basic 1 year deal.  Even factor in that he'd probably need a little more to come here, I'd have done one year 5.5 to help our depth.

Monty, Martinez, Belt, Clevinger and Solano still available. I am disappointed we aren't being more aggressive as all of those guys would help us.

His start this year is encouraging considering his struggles the previous spring trainings...there are a handful of MLB teams right now where he'd be an upgrade at DH to what they currently have in their plans for Opening Day.  Don't want to get too specific on team names to start derailing threads before the regular season, lol.

Wouldn't surprise me to see him in some afterthought end of Spring Training deal where he's switching organizations with a quicker shot back at MLB.

He has an upward mobility clause in his contract that requires the Tigers to see if any MLB teams are interested in him on specific dates and if there are, they have to either add him to their own roster or trade him to the interested team.  I believe the first date the clause triggers is March 26th, so it could be soon.

Looks like the Brewers front office isn’t the only one who prefers Winker over Hiura as Jesse has made the Nationals roster after hitting 324/479/459 this spring.

The nationals organization is also paying Strasburg 30+M dollars a season to be retired for the next few years.  A 459 slg percentage on a 324 BA in spring training is actually pretty terrible.  Winker's last game or two of plate appearances have softened those numbers a decent amount, too.

Hiura's 2024 deal makes sense for him to get routine opportunities to get back into the majors if he continues to rake in the Tiger minor leagues.  The Nats are likely vying for another few seasons of picking in the top 5, so them having Winker on their mlb roster to start this season is a "who cares" event.

With the new rules the Nationals can’t do this as they are not in the competitive balance group.  The Nationals will be able to pick in the top five for next year’s draft but won’t be able to pick in the top 6 again until the 2027 draft.  Revenue sharing teams can’t draft in the top six in back to back seasons.

The moralists would protest a Davies signing. I'd protest it because he's not very good anymore.

Maybe, but he had a solid 2022. May be worth at least a AAA deal for rotation depth and the pitching lab could turn him around.

Please explain "moralists."  Did Davies get into some trouble?  I am unable to find anything like that.
