Meh.  Cigarette smokers and vapors bother me more than weed smokers especially with smell and yes you do smell if you vape though sometimes you smell like a drunk fraternity girl on flavored vodka.

I can smell weed a lot further away than cigarettes or vape.  Maybe it's sensitivity, but I'll bet I've smelled weed at least 5x as often as I've smelled cigarettes the last five years, maybe 10x.  Legalization (even if how they acquire it isn't the legal way).

Since I need new plates, I decided to look at getting a specialized license plate.  They do not take applications for specialized plates online; I have to print out a form, fill it out, and mail it via snail mail.  I do not understand why they do not have an online option for this in 2024.  It's so inefficient for everyone to use a paper form.

Especially since it brings in a good bit of money to those causes you'd think they wouldn't make the process so cumbersome.

I vape, but I'm conscious to not have it waft in peoples' faces. Even if it smells nice there's no reason other people should be forced to smell it. But I absolutely hate the smell of weed, and it seems the more people smoke the more oblivious they are that everyone else can indeed smell it. Do it in private, hey whatever, but I don't take kindly to people who do it in front of little kids, which is very common.

It's too bad really.

They wisely dropped their terrible effort to force it to arbitration. Though something tells me the bad publicity will cost them more than the dude was even looking to sue for.

I don't know why people don't just eat a gummy.

This doesn't really bug me, but it is an interesting question...

I picked up bicycle riding again on my late father's Giant Rapid 2.  As I'm cruising along the Oak Leaf Trail in Milwaukee County, I noticed a sign that says, "No Motorized Vehicles Allowed".  Is an ebike considered a motorized vehicle?

This is probably a tongue in cheek question, but if ebikes are allowed, why aren't mopeds?  Ebikes seem to be the same as the pedal mopeds back in the late 70's and early 80's.  The only difference is the modern ones are electric.

Technically an e-bike wouldn’t be allowed, no. I haven’t really seen it ever be an issue, probably because e-bikes are expensive and thus attract a crowd that rides respectively. Unlike you know…a moped or dirt biker rider would ride on a trail.

In my state, "motorized" depends on the horsepower. Below 50cc's and you're good. It's why people with DWIs toot around on mopeds after they get their license taken away.

You're not technically supposed to have them on our mountain bike trails, but we don't care.

As to the the part I quoted, I got my personalized plates online about 4 years ago.  Did it all online, so the fact you can't do that now must be something new.

I'm not getting personalized plates. I am thinking of getting the Ice Age Trail or UW plates, but looking into it further, you can only apply online if the vehicle doesn't already have license plates, even for personalized plates. Just dumb and inefficient.

It makes me way too paranoid, so I can't use a gummy, smoke...or any of the other ways to use it.

When my Mom got sick, I went and bought some drops for her throat. They apparently worked well.

I've never minded the smell of weed though. I grew up with it. My Uncle...who was also a Cop, his house always smelled. It wasn't until I was ~14 or so when I realized...that's not actually from the Wreaths they make(his wife's hobby).

I also don't get how they make people so active or energized, but the lazy stoner caricature is not how it works...in my experience. He smokes now and he wants to go out and do one of his 20 different projects. It may cause him to half finish one and then start on another, but...the next time he gets around to it.

Co-worker brought in fleas which eventually made their way to my house and onto the cats. Also discovered the fleas came with worm larvae, so now the cats have those, too. Can't do topical medicine for the fleas because they freak out. They won't eat any human food so a flea pill is also difficult to give (but did manage that eventually). They even refuse most cat treats. Won't let me trim their claws, either.

A vet could do all that but they also hate the carrier and fight that. And all the vets around here only go by appointment, which won't work if it takes days to actually lure them into the carrier.

We have cats who are not fans of the carrier.  Our vet provided us with a prescription for gabapentin, which we give them a few hours in advance to take the edge off.  I mix it with wet food, which for them is a treat.

I can see why that's bugging you, though.

It came as an addition to other small stuff, which became a frustrating few days. Death by small cuts kinda thing.

Put their food in the carrier this morning and they spent 30 minutes looking confused. But they BOTH fell for it and I got them to the vet this morning. Nice to know I'm at least marginally smarter than a cat. Big plus to be able to do both when the vet is an hour away and I had to take off work for it. Vet couldn't make them eat the flea pill, but I've used Capstar at home with some success. That and covering the carpets with flea powder and just leaving it there does the trick after a week or so.

Doctor/healthcare appointments. Specifically having the provider reschedule on you. I feel like going back around 2 years now I haven't had an appointment that was actually kept for the originally scheduled day and time. Happened again yesterday, had an appointment that afternoon but the doctor's office called that morning and said the doc was ill and needed to reschedule.

Life happens and ultimately it's fine but it's also mind-blowing that this seems to happen on 100% of the appointments I have. I feel like I'm Charlie Brown, healthcare providers are always pulling that football away at the last second. I'm talking about 3 to 4 appointments a year minimum with different providers/specialists.

Day doesn't matter, time doesn't matter it just keeps happening.

Doctor/healthcare appointments.

If you live in/near a big city, look into One Medical.  It's owned by Amazon (disclaimer: I do not directly own Amazon stock, but I do indirectly own Amazon stock in mutual funds/ETFs).

One Medical promises to keep appointments on-time.  The previous two times I saw a primary care doctor I don't think I was brought back into the room until at least 45 minutes after the appointment time (over an hour for the last one).  So I decided to give them a try.  Went to one in downtown Chicago that was fairly easy to get to via the L.  Doctor had good reviews but not a lot of reviews.

My appointment was at 11am.  I walked in at 10:57am and checked in.  At 11am the doctor called me back into the room.  We met for 15-20 minutes for a basic physical.  He then walked me down to the lab for some basic blood work (that the tech was very skilled at).

I walked out the door at 11:28am.

They are only primary care, but they are affiliated with a local hospital system and will refer you if needed.  They have an app that makes communication with your doctor (and the billing staff) super easy and you can do virtual appointments via the app (which I did - super easy) and request medication refills.  They did submit a bill with incorrect codes, but it was easy to get them to correct it and resubmit.  There is a membership fee: $200/year, or $100/year if you have Amazon Prime.

To have an appointment start on-time and be in and out in less than 30 minutes - worth it.

Interesting. I'm in the Fox Valley area of WI, looks like Milwaukee is the only WI location and that still says "Coming Soon". I don't think Amazon getting into the medical/pharmacy business is a bad thing though. I've looked up my meds on their pharmacy and I think there are a couple that aren't available and the ones that are aren't that much cheaper than my co-pay. Options are always good though.

I don't really have too big an issue with wait times at the doctor's office, they're not that bad usually. A few minutes, nothing egregious the last several times I've gone. It's the actual rescheduling thing the last couple years that has become a source of irritation. Either I'm super unlucky or maybe it's more common than I would think it is.

The last time I remember waiting an extra long time it was several years ago for a dermatologist that was quite old, past retirement age. He was old school and liked chatting with his patients. It was kind of understood he'd be running late. I only had to have two appointments with him to resolve my issue.

The Tom Brady ads can end already.

I get it... he was a great QB.  But I don't watch football to hear Tom Brady.  So hyping a game by saying he is announcing it has to be a major insult to the teams actually playing the game...

Oof.

I was mildly annoyed that the Brewers had so few of those in stock.  To get one at the team store you pretty much had to be present the night they clinched or maybe the next morning.  I imagine they didn't want a ton left over, but their approach this time was almost the opposite extreme.

At least it won't stop being true that the Brewers owned the NL Central in 2024.  🤷‍♀️

People who stare at the phone while walking their dog. Had a lady today completely miss her dog eating a dead something. A couple minutes later she almost let her dog run into a bicyclist. Seriously people, is it that hard to look at the world around you when outside?

CenturyLink/Brightspeed won't service my house anymore. They're replacing all their copper line with fiber and they just don't want to or can't get to my house. All that I have available is Starlink, but I have enough tree cover that it's reallllly slow and somehow getting worse. Took about 30 seconds to open this page up.

Trying to find an antenna installer to get it above the trees but nobody has picked up the phone, plus I worry we're talking about $10k and not more like $1000.

Last hope now is we have a contractor at my work and maybe I can pay him to push the trees over or maybe he's already using a bucket truck that I can top the three big trees that are in the way. Contractors tend to have clever solutions to things so maybe he has some ideas.
