Heavy slider/sinker guy. Arguably best year of his career last year. Threw his Slider over 62% of the time and held opposing hitters to .216/.369 - I don't think he will get away with that as a starter though and his sinker was hit pretty hard last year. Didn't walk a ton last year and more than a K/9 - seems like a guy right up the Milwaukee alley that a few tweaks could unlock something. Just wonder how the heavy slider usage translates to being a starter instead of reliever.

$4M 2024 salary + $3M buyout on a 2025 mutual option, per Rosenthal on MLBTR.

.... so NOT $7M for 2024 as it looks per the first reports.

Didn't read the mutual option. If Brewers decline that they are on the hook for 1y 7M just split 4 and 3 when this season is completed.

Houser 2022-23
214 IP | 105 ERA- | 97 FIP- | 108 GB%+ | 79 K%+

Junis 2022-23
198 IP | 104 ERA- | 93 FIP- | 100 GB%+ | 102 K%+

So essentially Houser with more Ks and less GBs.

But Houser 42 of Houser’s 45 appearances in that time frame were starts. Only 21 of 63 appearances were starts for Junis. The last time Junis was used as more than an opener (2022) his era as a starter was nearing 5.00

Probably earmarked as the swingman on the ‘24 team in the vein of Jason Alexander or Aaron Ashby. I sure hope they would stick with their young arms at the back of the rotation than rolling with Junis.

Good name similarity to replace Janson Junk. Now go find a Bernie Corbins or Brendon Woodson and the rotation is set.

This is an interesting signing. Feels like the Brewers are throwing a whole bunch of spaghetti at the wall in the rotation and seeing what sticks. Freddy seems like the only lock to stick in the rotation all year(Miley too but I don't trust he'll stay healthy). Then you have guys like Rea, Junis, Hall, Gasser, Ashby, Ross, etc. Out of those 6 I could basically see any combination of 3 or 4 stepping up to become legitimate rotation pieces, but also any combination failing. It will be really interesting to see how it plays out

Right, but for all those extra starts, Houser only threw 16 additional IP.

Have a feeling the staff is going to be deployed in much more of a nebulous Rays like fashion now that Burnes/Woodruff are gone.

And he hasn't had the benefit of the Brewers pitching lab like Houser did over those 200 innings.

This on the outside looks like a steal. 170+IP for KC in his past. Junis fip was reduced his 2 years with SF. I don't feel wrong in saying the Crew found their next Miley. Junis 150+ IP and below 4ERA because of the defense.  Maybe teams don't like him not using a FB? Only 15 pitches registered as a fb 93-94. Why would SF not sign this guy? Dumped that FB the last 2 seasons and he's a below 4 fip. Junis may be our best pitcher of record when season ends.

Yes, but for $2M more.  Not sure why they just didn't keep Houser.  Was it because too many fans couldn't spell his name correctly?

Actually $1M less for this year.   Which may or may not matter.
