Adames and Williams Rank #2 and #3 by MLB Execs, scouts, and coaches as most likely to be traded this Spring

Who could have ever predicted that a guy coming off an ACL, who looked like a doubtful SS (+1 DRS | -4 OAA in 502 innings, mostly in 2021) but a plus 2B (+16 DRS | +8 OAA in 1346 innings) before the injury, would then return from that injury and struggle at SS?

Internet commenters.

Only SS I’d be offering is Turang, wouldn’t bail them out with Adames unless they really overpaid.

The Dodgers have decided to go with Mookie at SS.

For now.

I don't know that the Dodgers will get Adames, but I'm pretty certain someone not currently on their roster will get the majority of starts at SS this season.

What do we accept willingly in a trade at this point.  Sheehan or bust probably isn’t happening.  A threesome like River Ryan, Wroblewski and the injured Grosso might suffice.

The rankings are all over the place on Ryan. If the Brewers are toward the high side, they might take a 1-1 deal.

Weren’t the Giants interested in Adames?  Maybe something like this would work.

NAME POSITION SURPLUS
JD Davis 1B 4.4
Mason Black SP 5.2
Reggie Crawford SP 5.2

Total Value:

14.80

Giants
NAME POSITION SURPLUS
Willy Adames SS 11.1
Luke Adams 3B 3.3

Total Value:

14.40

I just don’t get the fascination this board has with JD Davis.

No...and I'd much rather keep Luke Adams in that exchange anyway.

So the trade then skews more for the Giants anyway.

It's the years of limited 1B/3B production that has people irrationally targeting mediocre 1B/3B who've just hit...NEAR 20 HRs I guess?

I just prefer his bat in the lineup opposed to Bauers, Turang, or Monasterio.

Outside of one 113 PA season 6 years ago, Bauers, Turang, and Monasterio combined don't have a single season or 2024 projection with a wRC+ higher than anything that Davis has had in his career or is projected to have this year.

Davis: image.png.4ff45aa43845324d72ab685261e7c10e.png  Bauers: image.png.b69349b34ece0854031140b6bcedff13.png  Turang: image.png.0f319647d4e350fd86292ab88a52f119.png  Monasterio: image.png.17b0ffe98b1c6d754b01563394ca098a.png

Ideally at least one of Turang or Monasterio (or eventually Black or Wilken) takes a step forward putting Davis in a strictly DH role, but he would give the team some flexibility in having another above average bat in the lineup regardless and I think with how strong defensively the rest of the team is we could afford him at 3B occasionally.

I am concerned this team does not have enough hitting for guys that play 3B, 2B and DH this season. If you bring in another vet, you can help mitigate this problem.

We have Black, Ortiz, Turang, Minesario, and Sal as 2B/3B options (Owen Miller, Vinny Capra maybe) there are enough quality young guys that we should find 2 decent options. We know Ortiz and Turang will be fine defensively, but I agree that offense could be a problem. By the time each of those guys get a shot, Wilken could be ready around mid-season depending on how aggressive we are with him. I am not worried about DH, for me Sanchez and Yeli platoon the DH with Conreras, Hoskins, and a 4th OF getting days here and there. Offensively not a problem unless Sanchez bat revert back a few years.

If the Dodgers want Willy, Miguel Vargas would seem like the best trade target. He is mostly blocked in LA and would fit in perfectly with his ability to play 3B, 2B, 1B and LF. There is plenty of upside in his bat after a strange season last year with injuries. We could take back Miguel Rojas contract as well if need be.

Just scratch of Davis and Adams. If we could get 2 of SF good pitching prospects I'd be ok, not sure how Luciano has been this Spring for them.

The sooner you accept that this is a transition year, the better you will feel

I don't really think they are trying to do a transition year. They could have done that without signing Junis and Sanchez. (Miley for that matter as well)

Or even Hoskins for that matter.  If this was a true transition year, then just roll with Black and Bauers at 1B.

I would agree that some of the moves and non-moves(not trading Adames or Williams) suggest this was not intended to be a transition year but still might end up that way. The Central stinks but need a lot of career years and guys like Hall and Ortiz contributing right off the bat for this to be a playoff team. I was one that didn't really think Adames would be traded but if the Dodgers are desperate have to seriously take a second look at this point.

I don't think we need career years from extras. Think how bad Rowdy, Winker, Weimer, Turang, Anderson, Voit, and others were last year. We just need our young guys to improve to be average with the bat. We probably need a starter to come out of nowhere to be a top of the rotation starter. The big thing that will determine if we are competitive is our bullpen. If our bullpen stays with 5 or so guys with era's under 3 and a couple around 2, we will be in it.
