After seeing what Brice Turang has done this year, I'm pretty much the last person that's going to rule Frelick out. After all. his production in the minors was superior to all of him, Wiemer, Mitchell, Turang, etc.

He's 24 with 320 career ABs in the majors.  Might be too early to count him out yet.

Absolutely. But I think its not too early to be concerned

His Statcast numbers are awful in terms of contact quality, and he has a .320 BABIP

He could go 5 for the next 10 and be batting .276 so not worried yet. To early.

And if he goes 5 for 10, his slugging would probably be .314 which is a problem. As I said earlier, I just think his ceiling is really low and 4th or 5th OFer seems about right.

Yeah. Look at that chase percentage. Not sure what a batter does to identify balls and strikes. More time in the cage?

OK then put Chourio in there. We don't have to many choices.

Turns out the much hated Josh Hader trade wasn't so bad for us either, as we've parlayed 1.5 years of Hader into Contreras, Payamps, and Gasser. Taylor Rogers and Dinelson Lamet didn't work out obviously, but man that trade is just the sort of thing that small market clubs need to do to remain competitive in the long run.

I was the rare fan of the trade at the time it happened

I didn't hate it, He blew his last year here.

What do people think the future holds for Frelick?

Better than Scooter Gennett's

It depends if he bulks his frame. (I don't mean to Thames level)  it's like a pitcher, velocity to low.  He's not even warning track power right now. That Frelick would do well.

Here's how we got Contreras:

What was the deal that brought Joel Payamps and William Contreras to Milwaukee?

  • Oakland got: Outfielder Esteury Ruiz (from Milwaukee), catcher Manny Piña and pitcher Kyle Muller, Freddy Tarnok and Royber Salinas (from Atlanta)
  • Atlanta got: Catcher Sean Murphy (from Oakland)
  • Milwaukee got: Catcher William Contreras and pitcher Justin Yeager (from Atlanta) and pitcher Joel Payamps (from Oakland)

Not sure he'll be better than Scooter, who was also bigger than Frelick. For what it's worth (nothing), Brewers players 5'8" or smaller have a career .660 OPS with the Brewers and Sal is at .659. He's pretty similar to Mike Tiny Felder right now which isn't a real good thing. Maybe he can do something in this upcoming AB.

Still an awful trade, that Hader one.  Stand alone trade, it was and is bad.  Braves/A’s totally bailed Brewers out with even crazier one.

That was a great trade too

My reference was to the Hader trade that returned Gasser

Gasser and Payamps didn't have anything to do with the Hader trade did they?  Was Ruiz part of that deal?

Even if you want to ignore the Esteury for Contreras portion of the trade for whatever reason, Hader threw 72 IP with SDP totaling 1.7 rWAR…Gasser has seven years to beat that.
