I am excited to see Gasser again today, I'm interested to see if there are adjustments and how that plays out. Mostly I am eager to get my hopes up of him being a #3 type starter that we've been hoping he would turn into the last couple years.

It sounds like DL Hall is getting into a rehab starts soon, what do we think of Hall and Misi piggybacking in say 3 weeks? I think it could be a nice way to get the best out of both pitchers. Obviously the downside is that that would be 2 roster spots and unlikely that our front office is going to use 2 spots to try out something new. Maybe just piggyback him with Ross or Bryse Wilson, the current Peralta, Rea, Ross, Wilson, Gasser alignment seems pretty solid at the moment.

Absolutely not on Mis. The lack of control will kill him. He needs time to hone it in

Misiorowski's command is not MLB ready. Asking him to go 3-4 innings in the MLB is just not feasible.

Also, is it bad if I believe this lineup would look better if Jake Bauers were in it?

I suppose it is as good a day as any to give some of our lefty bats a rest. I do fully expect some of the lefty bats to emerge from the dugout after the starter is pulled in the sixth inning.

Man Frelick must just be getting horrible jumps this year. The catch probability on his two diving catches last night were 60% on the one coming in and 85% on the Cutch one going back. Perkins probably makes those plays look pretty routine with very little fanfare.

The Brewers are problematically obsessed with platooning players. I'm quite annoyed that turang is sitting today(unless he's banged up). And Ortiz is clearly also being heavily platooned. I feel like brewers management doesn't understand, or doesn't care, that turning all your best hitters into platoon bats without giving them a fair chance is detrimental to long term development.

Platooning a significant part of your roster is smart management.

The way the Brewers are platooning and who they're using in the platoons are the problem.

That’s consistent with a general impression I’ve had about Frelick in the OF since he came up. He seems to make some plays look more difficult than they should be.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Turang has .350 OBP versus LHP this year. Zero power and small sample size, though.

I very rarely take issue with platooning a LHB against LHP. All but the greatest lefty hitters were, at best, mediocre against LHP. Barring a few weird split examples where some lefties don't have extreme splits but you can usually identify those very early on in the minors.

Joe Mauer, Hall of Famer and one of the most pure lefty swings in recent baseball history. Dude had a .740 career OPS against LHP.

Christian Yelich, perhaps the best hitter in baseball for two years and a very good overall hitter for several years more than that, has a career .769 OPS against LHP.

The fact is that the overwhelming number of lefty hitters flat-out suck against LHP. Only the very best hitters are even decent against same-handed pitching.

Long story short, 90% of LHB in baseball should be platoon candidates (ignoring defense and other factors).

I have no problem playing Perkins with his defense but when Perkins is batting 5th against a lefty they need better options against LHP. It looked improved prior to the season but they have done very poorly against them this year.

Outfielder Chris Roller called up to replace Oliver Dunn.

We will see who Roller is soon. I guess Murphy thinks we need an outfielder more than an infielder.

Today’s lineup,is certifiably horrible.

There’s not much they can do about it with Hoskins out and Yelich apparently unable to go more than a couple of days in a row. But, if they put out this lineup every day they wouldn’t  win 70 games.

Fortunately anything can happen in one game.

Mauer was just a singles hitter, though. 🙂

Sadly this isn't BruisedCrew pessimism. That lineup is rotten looking. Hopefully Perez command sucks because I think we might need a lot of free passes to put up runs today.

Today is only their 7th game against a LH starter.

Turang started in three of the previous six and came into the game as a pinch hitter in two more.

He has gotten one entire game off the whole season.

He isn't being strictly platooned, just strategically rested.
