Hang the L on CB Buckner, but about the best possible outcome for a loss - starter goes 6 IP with 5 very good innings, one reliever for the final two, Ashby looks great.

The bad……sucks to lose the last one of the road trip…….not much offense and no love from Buckner as usual.

the good……a 500 road trip is just fine at this stage and Ashby looked good

Day off and back home to face the Giants

I see Ashby is the same Ashby we saw over the past 3 weeks in Nashville. This is a massive development. So stoked for Ashby and the org for sticking through an extremely challenging and arduous last year. We aren't out of the weeds yet but dang if that rough just went to the short cut.

Average umpire accuracy in 2024 was 94% for reference. Angel Hernandez was around 91%

Bucknor today was 87%

MLB needs a system like the European Premiere League where the bottom graded umps get sent to AAA and the top graded AAA umps get called up.

Traveling on the northwest coast so could not follow the game but looks like the bats got the day off and CB Bucknor was in fine form as usual.

Agreed. If only MLB had a system where the best performers were performing at the highest level.

MLB Umpire's Union is the real enemy of the people.

In the end, I'd like to think I know what I'm thinking better than you do. And that you asserting otherwise does ironically reek of the very superiority you're supposedly calling out.

Regardless, nothing "failed" because Montas was screwed over by CB Bucknor.

Never mind.

What I wanted to say about the first sentence of this post is better left unsaid.

How much does race have to do with it? Angel Hernandez for instance sued MLB for “discrimination”

The song in The Goonies (by Cyndi Lauper) just came into my head.

MLB has to get tougher with the union during next round of negotiations……….there has to be an objective criteria that they can both agree on to judge if an umpires performance is acceptable………. like every other business.

Otherwise mlb is just at the mercy of the union as they protect incompetent umpires because they can.

I’d rather put up with replacement umps for awhile if I had to in order to get some control over the process.

its just ridiculous that everyone knows who the worst offenders are yet nothing is ever done about it.

There were sure some terrible calls by C.D. Buckner when Montas was pitching.

Also, Brewers looked listless today, at least we have a day off tomorrow to recharge the batteries.

Massive development indeed, and not just for the rest of this season and the playoffs, but also next season and beyond.

Another offseason past his surgery, and with his current trajectory, I think we see AA in the ‘25 rotation.

The only worse game this year according to umpscorecards was this one from last week, which was actually in Milwaukee's favor. So just Bucknor making the score even.

You could also look at totRI, which shows these top 5.

The game vs the Cubs gave the Brewers the edge by about 1 run, but it was more even in impact.

If only we had the technology to get every single ball/strike call correct.  Alas...
