not sure why brewer fans would be anxious. very little transpired this week. Besides losing out on Crochet, brewers are status quo with 2 months until pitchers and catchers report. They are fine.

And all that is fine

As long a we are satisfied with "winning the central"

We made the playoffs again!

Lost in the first round again (sad face)

Just once make the "Crochet" trade and be "all in"

And this one wouldn't have even cost a lot of dollars

Mad Dog says "They are just prospects"

All of this is easily arguable and I get it

But just once ....................................

Yelich, Adames, Contreras...the current iteration of the Brewers have made multiple big trades for players under long term control and they've combined for over 50 WAR and counting.

Trading for Garrett Crochet would still be a couple two tree big moves short of going "all in".

I would be fine with winning the central and making the playoffs again.  It sucks losing in the first round, but trading for Crochet does not come close to guaranteeing that the Brewers make it out of the first round.  If you told me right now that the present Brewers roster (with a couple of expected additions through trades/signings that do not involving the "going all in" mentality of some fans) would be good enough to win the Central, I would take my chances.  The past two years the Brewers were good enough to go deep in the postseason.  That they didn't is disappointing but has little to do with them not going "all in."  It is just the bad breaks of baseball.

Who would you rather have had in all of baseball than Devin Williams facing Pete Alonso?  It didn't work out, but 9 times out of 10 in that situation, Williams wins that battle and the Brewers are moving on.

We did that with Grienke. In hindsight, we would have been better off not going all in.

Again I get all the answers and they are fair points. Maybe Crochet wouldn’t be enough but it feels like we are afraid of another Grienke so we say just to high of a cost and do not stick our neck out. Yelich, great trade. Felt like we were aggressive.  Adames trade not as big of a trade and he had questions about his hitting.  Turned out in our favor. Contreras, we took advantage of the A’s.  If those trades were all in a short time period you would be excited about the prospects.  The 1980 trade, Fingers Vokovich Simmons. That set us up to go to the World Series. That was a bold move. I’m old. I want to see another World Series. I guess my patience is as short as my life expectancy.

Take this with a very fine grain of space dust but I have heard the Brewers have some interest in Alonso on a deal similar to what they signed Grandal to.  This would be a Mark A. move as Arnold and others in the front office prefer Goldschmidt over Alonso.

This would make a lot of sense but would likely require Alonso's market to really fall through

I'm just happy that the team recognizes that Hoskins should be mostly a DH. I would take either Alonso or Goldschmidt

IIm coming around to a 3 for 1 with the dodgers for Devin.

Seems Gonsolin and Lux could clearly be in the deal as pieces two and three.   Add one of these four in order and I probably accept without knowing what these other teams are offering;

1) Bobby Miller /Gonselin /Lux

2) Emmet Sheehan/Gonselin/Lux

3) Knack/Gonselin/Lux

4/Wroblewski/Gonselin/Lux

Gonselin was 4+ war in 23 and two years of control.   Lux is more or less thrown in to save them some salary and becomes a better Kona station that can play 2b 3B or Ss as our utility guy.   Again knowing our community doesn’t want Lux as a main piece, he’d be a throw in here and alleviate some luxury tax from the dodgers while being a roster improvement in the monta role.  Give me any one of Miller/Sheehan/Knack/Wroblewski with Gonselin and Lux and it’s a clear good deal for Milwaukee.

Basically Alonso's market would have to be very similar to what happened to Grandal.  I fully expect the Mets to resign Alonso either to a short term deal one year plus player options or to what they offered him previously.  Though the market for Alonso right now is just the Mets and I don't think Stearns will bid against himself so a one year plus player options type of a contract sounds what Alonso is looking at right now.  The question then becomes does he want to return to the Mets on a one year plus player options or does he want to go somewhere else on just a one year deal?

Wasnt Grandal deal 1 year?

I'd be shocked if Alonso signs a 1 yr deal.

Essentially it was a 1 year deal but there was a mutual option for a second year with a buyout which is basically just a 1 year deal.  Mutual options are very rarely ever picked up.

The persons that I talked to they said it was an unlikely scenario but something that looks like it could happen as Alonso’s market is basically dead right now.  The Mets have been the only team that has any serious connection with him right now.

It is possible Alonso may have to take a 1 year deal if the Mets sign Burnes.  Right now it looks like the Mets have the strongest offer out to Burnes.

Makes sense.... I would love to add Alonso as our 1B.

Interesting as I havent seen anything regarding Burnes and Mets.... Things I'm seeing is Giants or Blue Jays as favorites to sign Burnes.

The Burnes piece was my own opinion.  I thought he had already met with the Mets earlier.  I do see that the Giants and Blue Jays have recently met with him so they may have outbid the Mets.  The Red Sox are also a possible destination.  It is weird that the Orioles haven't been linked at all to Burnes though.  I wouldn't count the Mets or Orioles out on signing Burnes.

I'd be all over signing Alonso (preferably) or Goldschmidt.  Moving Hoskins into the DH role would be a considerable upgrade over the sum of 2024 Sanchez & Bauers, especially if Hoskins' 2nd year back from injury is closer to his career norms.

I don’t think they are in the market for a 1b/DH at all personally. Hoskins is going to play pretty much every day and I don’t think they will sign another every day guy who will play 1b/DH only to completely lock down the DH so they can’t play anyone else there like Yelich or Contreras or whatever OF is playing well. They might get a guy like Moncada to play 3B/DH though or find some league minimum player who is like 28 years old and former top 100 prospect, like they have been doing lately.

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

The Mets didn't land Burnes, but we're getting to the point in the offseason where Alonso is becoming more of a possibility for that Grandal (signed January 14th, 2019) / Hoskins (signed January 23rd, 2024) type pickup.

Alonso plus a 3B would put us in a really nice spot. And a switch hitter like Moncada or Polanco would give the team some real flexibility in mixing and matching along Ortiz/Turang/Durbin at 2B/3B/SS.

That said, Alonso makes Hoskins a bit redundant and removes DH opportunities for Yelich/Contreras. So MA probably needs to find a creative way to move Hoskins' contract in the case of an Alonso signing.

If the Brewers sign Alonso it would be their only major signing.  Polanco or Moncada would have to agree to sign for league minimum and that is just not going to happen.

Sources told former Mets GM Jim Duquette that Pete Alonso has offered to do a three-year deal with opt outs with the Mets.

Duquette says Alonso is only willing to do this deal with the Mets right now. No acceptable long-term offers have emerged for the 30-year-old first baseman. The Angels emerged as a suitor, but most of the deep pocketed teams have chosen to look elsewhere.
