Attanasio is still the Managing Partner at Crescent Capital. That’s his bread and butter. I’d imagine he’d have to retire from the hedge fund he founded to be Commissioner which would be a huge ask.

On the other hand, having a Commissioner uniquely attuned to the challenges facing the small market clubs, would probably be a net positive for Milwaukee.

Finally, Selig ran the Brewers into the ground not because he was distracted by his duties as commissioner, it’s that he cut the budget to the bone and put his friends and family in charge of the team with little to no qualifications then stuck with them as they ran the team into the ground.

Only if Mark A. enforces a salary cap and shared TV revenue!

It doesn't work that way...

I am not seeing a salary cap….how long of a strike do you want to see?
I would start with harsher luxury taxes, a universal draft, and more easy perks for smaller markets (45 man roster, more draft picks in between rounds 2 and 3, higher share of national broadcasting).

And Attanasio is 5 years younger than Manfred.   61 to 66.  It is possible.

He would be an amazing choice. The guy just knows how to find talent and let them run successful organizations. And he’s hired brilliant people in areas that he knows nothing about, like finding Brian Anderson in a stack of 1,000 resumes despite knowing nothing about broadcasting. MLB would be better for it.

The bad news for us is that he would have to be more hands off of the Brewers even if he keeps them in the family.

Doesn't sound all that different from what Mark has done and wants to do in the future.

I can only conclude you weren’t around for the 90s and early 00s. Usually with those teams the talent was so lacking, , every player could have a played the entire season to the best of their capabilities, and get every break during the season and they still would have been irrelevant in the standings.

I mean, our payrolls haven't come close to keeping up with even the slightly below average payrolls anymore and his sons are involved and would like to take over when he steps aside.

I see that you’re trying to knock Attanasio but there’s no way to argue that  he has been anything other than a terrific owner when compared to Bud Selig.

Attanasio has had 6 (!) losing seasons in his 20 seasons as owner. That includes the first couple seasons of his ownership with the moribund group of players he inherited from Selig.

By contrast, Bud never even tried to win after ‘92, and further bludgeoned his fan base into apathy by hiring poor GMs like Sal Bando and Dean Taylor who bottomed out the entire organization.

Mark was born 9/29/1957 (67 at the moment) and Rob was born 9/28/1958 (66).

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

I will say this. He has hired some very good people in the Brewers organization, and that staff has kept us going to the playoffs.

But he is a businessman. As he said himself, he's not aiming to win a World Series, only to keep fans happy through the summer, and (presumably) buying tickets, beer, and merchandise.

So I wish he's spend more money for better players, especially starting pitching. But it's not my money. And overall the organization is very well run.

It can work that way if Mark A. becomes a righteous dictator!

Make MLB fair again!

Again, it doesn't work that way and won't...

He didn't run them into the ground, Bando did(then family) and he didn't even slash salary, Bando didn't wan tto pay Molitor as he thought that money could be better spent elsewhere.

But that's just my Selig defense as I think he gets too much blame.

Get Jimmy and Dee Haslem in there and tell them to let Arnold do what he wants, they write the checks. I'd eb happy. Probably add 50M to our payroll.

This is a poor representation of what he said.

This infers his goal isn't to win a WS.

Brewers had a 2.2% increase from last year to this year. That doesn't even cover inflation. So really we are spending less this season.

Does inflation factor into revenue?
