Well only One run is ok, he usually gets better from here on out.

True, but then there is always that high pitch count early...

5 inning Freddy is at it again.

Nowhere did I say anything close to Cal Raleigh being the bar. My point was that for a catcher to be playing as much as Contreras, you’d think he was hitting like Raleigh. Because he is hitting more like Ortiz (650 OPS last 2 months), maybe a reasonable amount of days off would help. It sure wouldn’t hurt

As others pointed out, Jansen just got here. Don’t know where he’s at in the onboarding process. They might want to ensure he’s gotten familiarized with the pitching staff, their signs, etc before throwing him into such an important game.

And just like I wondered how Perkins would get playing time before yesterday then that solved itself, I wondered why Contreras was in the he hits a bomb

Contreras doesn’t like BF posters talking about him😂

Contreras doesn't like threats to his playing time.

Not sure if that statement is correct because Contreras has 17 hits and 2 walks in the last 15 games. Also 8 hits in the last 7 games .286 which is better than his career numbers.

See, Contreras is hot!!!!!!!

Velo seems to be back from the White Sox game from Shota.

Still looks like he is serving up cookies at 90-91 - but I know that is his normal velo.

Splitty is rolling in, Contreras going yard off of that pitch.

Looking at game logs though, it's not that bad. In June and July, he had 4 starts of 5IP,  5 of 6IP, and one 6.2 (in fairness, April-May were much more heavily ~5IP).

I’m telling you we should have been lambasting Contreras awhile ago.    He was getting a pass.     Got put some pressure on this dude

Yelich getting a day off against the lefty and Contreras simply having a day off both make equal sense to me.

Contreras had a great game yesterday so we might as well give Yelich the day off.

Not if Chourio is out...

Yea but both him and peralta would’ve had 2 days to work together for today. If for some reason not everyone was on board for that, Jansen should probably at least be DHing for Yelich vs a LHP then catch next series sometime

This poll is coming back today, for sure!

I certainly hope we will win, but I don’t have confidence in Peralta. He’s had a great season & like Woodruff is “mature & seasoned” as a pitcher, but I’m not ready to trust him in big games just yet.

I don’t want to be greedy, but a three game lead rather than a one game lead is significant. Here’s hoping we get good Freddy today.

Let's get the bat on the ball and sweep this thing!

That would be sweet but sweeping teams is one tall order.

Two things we know about Contreras:

1) our manager stated, bluntly, that rest won’t help his injury. Only surgery, which he isn’t getting right now.

2) struggling or not this year, he’s still the best catcher on our roster.

So, he plays. Maybe he will play a little less when Jansen gets a little more comfortable, at least against LHP.

Almost as importantly, a 5-3 season series lead with 5 to play means we only have to win 2 of 5 in Chicago to have the tiebreaker
