Brewers at Cubs; Thursday, August 21 @ 1:20 p.m.: Quinn Priester (3.48 ERA, 4.32 FIP) vs. Shota Imanaga (3.06 ERA, 4.32 FIP)

Seventh straight game of weak hitting.

Need 4 clean innings from the bullpen to pull this, out. That may be asking too much.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Tough crowd when they've won his last 14 starts and are still winning this one.

Can't say the same for Q.

Pitcher wins are about as meaningful as infield dirt. He's fine. Good, even. I'd prefer not to have him pitching as a rotation player in October with his penchant for putting guys on base.

Didn't Mears throw like 4 pitches?  with how the BP has been I'd probably try for another out of him instead of Anderson here but we'll see

Asking for 4 shutout innings from the bullpen is really a lot when one has to come from Anderson in a high leverage situation.

Man, what is going on with the offense. I can understand coming down from the major high they were on, but it completely swung the other direction and disappeared this series. This is getting frustrating to watch again.

I read a book about backgammon years ago. The author called it the cruelest game because it was like baseball: you play all the right odds, but the roll of the dice (or a bounce or the wind or some freaky variable) cancels all of your brilliance.

Backgammon is a great, great game. Highly recommended for anyone that is looking to take a break from cribbage or some other game.

This has been an awesome series. Brewers have played winning ball, and lost a couple games where they had a chances in the last at-bat or two.

We have to score a few more, can't rely 100% on pitching.

You mean the guy who has a sub 2.9 ERA this year?

Mears: 2.96 ERA

Anderson: 2.92 ERA

Koenig: 3.26 ERA

Ashby: 2.06 ERA

Uribe: 1.79 ERA

MeGill: 2.09 ERA

Not sure why so many people hate on Anderson..

How many innings in high leverage situations like Sunday?

But he did the job today and now the baton passes.

The Brewers, even with their generally good pitching, are just 1-14 this year when scoring exactly 2 runs. It usually takes more than 2 to win and I expect it will today too.

6 runs in the last 24 innings. That isn’t all just bad luck.

How many runs have the Cubs had the last 5 games?

Just not a good idea to green light a guy there 3-0 especially with the wind blowing in. Yeah, I know he made great contact. It’s still an out. Take your chances 3-1 with the exhausted starter.

It's just been one of those series. Some guys are still hitting the ball hard just right at guys. What are you gonna do?

Hate swinging 3-0 following a walk there.  I know he hit it hard, but it’s an out.  There’s times to ambush 3-0, that just didn’t feel like one of them.

Agreed. Hated it. Base runners are at a premium, you’re up 3-0 against a guy who is at 100 pitches and has suddenly lost the zone. You’re one pitch away from 1st and 2nd with one out and you green light a guy with limited power on a day that the wind is blowing in. Just not a great call.
