Ouch, and here comes the fear at the deadline.   Hopefully it's just 2-3 weeks and he can get a couple weeks of ABs in before the playoffs.

Alternatives to Mona at short for this time seem slim...

Anyone on the 26 man just forces Seigler in, which isn't better offense than Mona and downgrades one if not two positions defensively.

Zamora ain't it.

Pratt is having a hot month, but putting a guy in the majors who took until August to figure out AA is crazy.

We'd be last in order for waiver claims for anyone trying to shed salary.

Gambling on a AAAA/washed up veteran who refused/opted out of AAA isn't very enticing.

Prospects could be traded for a blocked prospect or solid AAA player not on a 40-man roster.  Though again, counting on an MLB debut to be an upgrade is foolish.

And they were never going to add Pratt to the 40 man at this juncture…….its not like they can just remove him when Joey gets healthy.

Not real confident in Monasterio defensively at SS but that is what they have and Turang isn't moving there. If Zamora can't get called up now don't think he has a future in Milwaukee.

Now that you mention it, I bet if something happens with Monasterio, they do move Turang to SS. With Durbin moving to 2B.

It’s very disappointing that the front office didn’t recognize the hole an injury to Ortiz would cause and pick up a good fielding major league SS to use as a backup.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

They have a good-fielding major league SS to use as a backup.

Brice Turang.

And you can play that game with every position.  Why didn't they get another OF to cover for injury (Chourio) or absence (Collins, Perkins)?  Why didn't they get another SP?  Why didn't they get another 3B, or 1B, or closer, or...

You only have so many roster spots.  And if people haven't looked lately, Monasterio has a wRC+ of 102 which, among players with at least 60 PAs, ranks 20th among all 49 SS in MLB just ahead of... Willy Adames.

Any chance Isaac Collins could be serviceable at 2B?  When Chourio returns, you could roll with Collins  at 2B, Jackson in left and Perkins in center.

That lineup might be our best players we can have on the field come playoffs.

I fear the Brewers will miss Ortiz’s stellar defense more than they realize over the next few weeks. I hope it doesn’t cost us a game or two. It seems like organizational malpractice to have no quality options to call on from AAA. I understand all the reasons why not to add Pratt, but he would be a better 40-man option than Berroa. Time will tell. I hope we never miss a beat.

The advanced metrics like Mona pretty fine. Joey is a proven good to great fielder (some might say even better), but Mona is at least a solid guy who will give confident ABs.

I said in the game thread I'd feel better with Zamora than Bauers, but I am coming around to this more, especially if it's a short stay.
