I know strength of schedule can be overblown, but the Cubs are facing one of the worst teams of all time currently. Glad the Giants helped us out because a 5-4 or 6-3 West Coast trip for the Cubs seems inevitable.

And our supposed brutal schedule down the stretch is a bit overblown too. Once we get past these next five games, the only playoff team we'll see the rest of the way is the Padres, and we might have the division locked up at that point, if not home field advantage.

We just needed to play an above .500 team to get back to winning

Huge for October if true. That >.500 W-L has been really robust for a good long time now.

So I guess the only guy worthy of getting tased today is Ashby. So much movement, but the guy can drive you nuts sometimes.

Wow, Isaac Collins. Lather, rinse, repeat. Three smoke jobs to RF. Hopefully he's locking back in.

If they lost, I was all set to b**** about the strike zone for Bieber. Not that guys with quality reputations don't get borderline calls but I thought I was watching Greg Maddux there for awhile. Compounded by Peralta not really getting the same zone.

Fun game. Seemed to be quite a bit of Brewer fans in the house.

Nolan Ryan threw 150 pitches a game for 24 years.

The other day, I thought it would be a great idea if this winter Misiorowski visited Nolan Ryan at the Ewing Ranch or wherever he lives & pick his brain about the guys' workout regimen, one flamethrower to another. It obviously worked wonders for him

As soon as he starts skipping Ryan would give him the Ventura noogie

Uribe hadn't actually pitched since Monday (though he did get loose a little bit the last two days, I think), so no real problem getting him in. I suppose I understand Ashby as well, given that a 5-run lead against that lineup with 3 innings to go is not really the spot to feel comfortable (we added 2 runs while he was warming, so it was 7-0 when he entered).

Miller feels a little bit odd to me when you've got Rob Z. available, but you still got rest for Koenig and Mears, and the thing that really hamstrung us tonight is that Myers has thrown 77 pitches since Tuesday. This was a Myers game, but the dude just wasn't available to throw.

So, it's hard to complain about the bullpen usage. Every win matters, and we really only have pretty good to really good relievers out there right now. There isn't a clear "mop up" guy, which is just another facet of our depth and roster construction.

The flip side is: is there anyone I trust as much as I trusted Devin or Hader at times? No. But we've seen both those guys unable to close out big October games, so maybe the by-committee approach is the way to go.

Thrilled with the win. Another day off the schedule, another notch off the magic number. Need 21 of 53 games to go the right way for the division (assuming the Cubs don't get Coors-ed).

As others have said, if we can get through the Toronto series while the Cubs play the SkySox and ONLY give up a game in the standings that would be a win. Great first step tonight.

I don't think it'll be by committee AFA the 9th is concerned. It'll be Uribe & if/when available, Megill.

Interesting point re the lack of a traditional 'mop up' type guy. I thought if he hangs around on the roster it could be Fedde.

My bigger issue with Ashby is he just shouldn't have been used today at all. Multi-inning reliever who had thrown 64 pitches in the last 4 days and that's what he looked like on the mound today. You'd figure Ashby would be down for the series now but I'm guessing he will be available on Sunday. Just need to hope that his body can hold up to this type of usage as losing Ashby would be a major blow to the pen.

Think tasing Ashby would be pretty harsh. He gutted through an inning on a day he really had no business being available throwing 26 pitches in the process.

I'm just wondering if Freddy will get a start in the playoffs.

Of all the dumb things stated on this site this year, that may have been the dumbest.

Don't know if it was mentioned in the thread but Brewers have a legit shot at having both the NL player and pitcher of the month in August with Turang and Peralta. Have they ever done that before?

Turang's month is very comparable to Braun's July 2008.

Turang - .354/.413/.707 with 9 HR and 23 RBI

Braun - .366/.411/.752 with 9 HR and 23 RBI

Let's not get worked up about bullpen decisions.  Until they have their next off-day, it's going to be whoever is available regardless of the score.
