Zimmerman getting the start in this game that does not matter for the Brewers. But still, they kinda need to win two more times so they can set a new franchise record.

Agree 100%, execpt lets do it by scoring a lot of runs instead of having a pressure cooked pitching staff.

Everyone seems so grouchy lately.     The brewers hit their goals this season.    Everyone else is still sweating out games.     Enjoy this next week or two.     We can worry about playoffs later.

Given that we have a 2 game lead over Philly and 5 games to go, I'd say games still matter.

I get the difference between the 1 seed and 2 seed is smaller than the difference between a 2 and a 3 (because of the bye), but I'd still much rather play the Cubs/Padres rather than the red hot Dodgers or Reds

People are even grouchy when we win is what gets me because of moves Murphy makes.  I have a Brewers T-shirt that is uncanny how much much they lose when I ware it, like about 90% of the time.  I will not be waring it any more this season.

In this case, it does matter a little bit. But the team I do not want to play is the Dodgers. I’d certainly rather play the Reds than the Padres.

The team was having a great time when they were winning in August. That sense of joy is long gone. Jackson looks as unhappy as I've ever seen him. This team needs to find its mojo again.

Does anybody really care about the franchise record for wins in a season?

The season will be remembered much more for what happens in the playoffs. And if they flame out early again, it will still be memorable as the year the Brewers surprised everyone by winning the division and the incredible stretch from June through mid August regardless of the final regular season win total.

If there's a reason I want to see more wins it's to get that 1 seed that might have a tangible benefit if the Brewers reach the NLCS and face the Phillies.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Honestly, it's mostly joy already, but the specter of entering the playoffs yet again without key pieces and then going out immediately would really send me into a tizzy. If they're relatively healthy and lose, it won't be as bad on my psyche.

I have always been of the belief that playoffs in every sport are much more a crapshoot than the regular season, so regular season accomplishments mean more to me than the average fan (I suspect) because of the long-term excellence it requires. But, the unluckiness of this franchise with playoff health annoys the heck out of me - maybe nobody comes into October 100%, but it sure seems like we've gotten the shorter end of that stick.

This was my post on 8/28 in the thread about what would make you happy for this season.

Gol' darn it. I should've kept that in my thought bubble (as my wife says to her pupils at school - and me - when inappropriate things get blurted).

Fully expecting to go into a tizzy now...

@formerlybis Regular Season Excellence is far undervalued in the MLB where 162 games are played ... an incredible amount of games!

We should be crowned champions if we hold off the Phillies at the end of the regular season.  That's the least thing MLB should do for the Brewers considering the market-size-means-payroll-capability-nonsense that the MLB allows!  We overcame their nonsense over 162 games!  We have proven ourselves to be the best franchise in the MLB for 2025!  Case closed!

I know your tongue was planted in your cheek - we Americans demand a postseason. Most of the European soccer leagues don’t. There are other “knockout” competitions that culminate in a championship game, but the trophy for winning the regular season is extremely coveted. Not here - you get your playoff games at home and that’s it.

Not sure why anyone who is a Brewers fan wouldn't want to set the all time wins record!

YES damn it,  I want to set the record!

This team is special, let's attach the wins record to it, then see what happens in the playoffs.

I don't really "care", but it's a nifty thing to accomplish. I'd rather see them do it than not.

I've noticed that too. His big smile is gone. I bet it's hard for a 21 year old dude who has mashed at every level of the game to eat some humble pie as teams adapt to him and how they pitch him.

If I was another team I just wouldn't throw him a strike. He's not gonna walk. Make him beat you by hitting a ball. Until he starts taking walks he's going to struggle at times. That plate discipline will come in time, he'll figure it out.

I am serious!  Thanks for the info on the European Leagues.  They seem smarter!

Yeah. They need to win a series. That's my floor. It'll be disappointing to lose in the NLCS again, but everybody but one ends the year disappointed. I believe that if we keep doing this, we'll break through eventually. I think the stars are somewhat aligned for us this year as well as they're ever going to be, but baseball is a brutal game.

Yeah, I think this exists more in your head than anywhere else. I am sure they're literally smiling less, because you don't tend to smile after losing. I think you're drawing correlation without causation here. I'm not buying that the 1-seeded Brewers are sauntering around the clubhouse because their patchwork teams have lost some games. If they were that weak they wouldn't have bounced back from where they were at the end of April.

The W or L doesn't matter as much as the offense getting back on track showing that it still can put up 5 or more runs regularly. Don't care if they get beat 9-6. But this 3-2 type nonsense has to turn around now before they get to their bye week. Somebody needs to get hot driving in runs, set the table for the rest to loosen up and follow suit. They appear tight right now, anxious, pressing at the plate. The bats are limping to the playoffs. Nobody is overly afraid of matching up with them at the moment. Why would they be? You have a starting rotation that rarely manages to get through 6 innings and an offense that is more a desperate animal trapped in the corner than an alpha male. That has to change.

I hope you are right, but I don’t think you are. Even when that team wins, or even a player gets a base hit (and did that hand thing), it doesn’t seem to have that August joy. I think it matters, even to pro ball players.

Yeah, playoff seeding is so difficult for this reason. I really don't want the Cubs just because of the emotional stakes involved, even though the players probably care zero about that.

If I could choose TODAY, I'd make us the two seed because a) the Padres might catch the Dodgers and end up playing the Reds/Mets, in which case I'd FAR prefer the 2 than being the 1 and having to play Cubs/Dodgers and b) I find the chance of the Reds/Mets/DBacks beating the Dodgers to be more beneficial than having a guaranteed series against the Cubs/Padres.

On the other hand, I'd sentimentally love to be able to wrack up wins and set a franchise record.

I don't know. I guess it comes down there's no point in caring about the matchups. Or getting too worked up if we close 0-6. The results matter less than being full-strength however it shakes out.

Dodgers are 10-8 in September. I get it, they took 3/4 the Giants over the weekend, but red hot? 30-28 since the All-Star break? They have been treading water for half a season.

I still don't want the Brewers to play them, but that's more my nervous fandom than anything the Dodgers have shown this year. Dodgers are one team that I don't think would surprise anyone if they flipped a switch when the playoffs begin.

Now that I think about it, I really don't want to see the Brewers face the Padres, Cubs, Phillies or Reds/Mets, either.

I think cherry picking the opponent is a total waste of energy. Philly and LA are juggernauts if they want to be. Chicago is high emotional stakes, but imagine the joy of winning. I don't get wanting to avoid that. You're the best or you aren't. Bring it on.

The thing about the cubs is it nullifies home field advantage some.    They will have too many fans here.    We don’t need that ****

I've said this in other posts. The Brewers have had the opponents that the fans wanted to see in the first round (Nats, Dbacks, Mets, even the Braves) and it hasn't worked. Let the chips fall where they may.
