"Not a lot of misses by Zimmerman except the pitch that hung for the grand slam."

Not too comforting, Mr. Dillard.

"Go ahead. Try to disagree with me. I dare you." Jeffrey Leonard.

I was thinking before the game, I should sign up for one of the sports betting apps, and bet against the Brewers today. Yep this might get ugly.

We are definitely limping into the playoffs, injury-wise and just playing bad baseball.  I don't have a ton of confidence in our offense right now and the pitching staff is completely beat up.

I hope Turang's not getting the yips.

He is striking out a LOT this year. But he’s also slugging much higher than ever before, so maybe that’s the trade off.

edit: sorry, should have figured out from context that you were referring to his fielding here.

“Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln…”

It’s about time to pull out the studies on whether a stumbling finish is a foreshadowing of an early playoff exit.

I remember people posting those in 2021 when the Brewers limped to the finish line. The conclusion was that there was no correlation between how a team finishes and how they perform in the postseason.

Of course the 2021 team kept limping.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

If we weren't limping into the playoffs there would still be a week off between the season and playoffs. Whatever we're doing in game 162 is very unlikely to have anything to do with the playoffs.

If we were red hot and suddenly not, we'd have people blaming the bye. I can't imagine how tired the players are at this point of the year. A few consecutive days off sounds heavenly. Line up with a rested group and hopefully play your best baseball. But I am not really worried about what we're seeing right now.

Eh. Last seasons’ Dodgers went 16-12 in September. Nothing special. Rangers were about .500 in 2023 in September.

Obviously the Brewers didn’t play well enough in 2021 in September, but I don’t know if that has anything to do with now.

They need the remaining pieces of their rotation to stay healthy. They need a few guys on offense to get hot and start swinging the bat better. They really need an effective bullpen.

I think those are the things that will matter, not so much what they did this month.

Also, Brewers have .600 winning percentage over last ten games.

Yeah, if they lose tonight, which they probably will, they will be 10-10 in September.

Not great, obviously. But not like choking bad. Fortunately, they gave themselves enough of a cushion in July/August to afford a mediocre September.

We put up a pretty loaded lineup tonight  and they could not score as of yet against a pitcher with a 15 ERA over the last two weeks......this has to concern us.

Miami rallied from 3-0 down to take a 5-3 lead over Philly in the 10th. That’s where they are now.

Their games matter as much as this one, because only Brewer wins or Philly losses can reduce the magic number to the 1 seed.

I like the way you are thinking.
