yeah, it sucks but I wouldn't have bet on Ashby giving up a HR (let alone a 3 run shot) either.

9 innings of offense available. But getting burned by a Cubs homer with two men on base hurts. Feels like an answer with at least a run in the bottom of the 1st is necessary.

He gave up a bloop hit, a bad walk and a HR on a pitch that wasn’t even a strike

I didn't have a problem with Ashby getting the start and I still don't. He just didn't have the strike zone. Was he not dealing with nerves? Who can say but if he doesn't throw strikes it's going to hurt the team whether it's in the 1st inning or 7th/8th.

I knew it, I just felt it.

It just wasn't prudent to be cute with an opener in a game of this magnitude.  

Ashby isn't used to starting games, and Priester isn't used to coming in as a non-starter.  This had failure written all over it.  Yeah, Ashby has started games, and Priester as come in after an opener to some success, but it wasn't normal behavior.  It just wasn't.

Now we need to overcome this nonsense.
