I know most wouldn’t do it but I admire the rare athlete who can walk away when they know it’s over……even if they leave money on the table.

I think it's too bad he let SD off the hook of that stupid contract that would have ran until he was 42 years old...

Yeah, it's great he knows when he's done, but the fact that SD thought it made sense to give him a contract that ran until he was 42, and now are going to get out of it is irritating.

Make them pay for their stupidity

That Sexson trade basically brought us our whole starting line up from the d backs. I think we got like 6-7 guys.

You forgot to mention we got our ace in that trade too.

Sounds like SD leaked this to force a smaller buyout.

And to that I say, don't retire, Yu, just don't play

Memories unlocked:

In December 2003, the Brewers traded Sexson along with pitcher Shane Nance and a player to be named later (Noochie Varner) to the Arizona Diamondbacks for infielders Junior Spivey, Craig Counsell, Lyle Overbay, catcher Chad Moeller, and pitchers Chris Capuano and Jorge de la Rosa.

I don't remember trading away or for Jenkins.  That Burnitz trade was such crazy a mess of people moving all over the place.

Looks like he just signed with the Phils.

lol ya… kinda like that Francisco Cordero trade. It was like we were trying to field half a roster from 1 transaction.

overbay and capuano turned out to be decent contributors (I’m going off of memory so if they actually stunk in hindsight I’m sorry). Moeller, Spivey, Counsell all pretty much stunk for us. Maybe if De La Rosa didnt get traded he could’ve worked out for us too, but our pitching development wasn’t all that great at the time.

Sexson got hurt for AZ and produced .3 WAR in 23 games

For the Brewers:

Capuano:  7.8 WAR in 7 seasons

Overbay:  4.3 WAR in 2 seasons

Spivey:  2.6 WAR in 1.5 seasons

Counsell:  1.0 WAR in 1 season and then left in free agency

Moeller:  -3.6 WAR in 3 seasons (yikes)

DeLaRosa:  -1.5 WAR in 1.5 seasons

So yeah, Pretty much got trash for him, but he was even worse.  You can also factor Dave Bush in since we got him for Overbay.  He was 1.9 WAR in 5 seasons so also meh.

And Bader gone too. Had thought that might be an option to upgrade CF, however unlikely.

Yea had fingers crossed there but I'm guessing that 2nd year was enough to rule us unless he dropped to like 2/15.   1/10 I think I'd be good with it for sure but I see their hesitation on 2/20ish.   That said, they've had no issue using 8-10 mil per on the Mccutchen and other types, and of course 18 on Hoskins.  And they'll have a lot of money clearing the books next offseason so personally I'd have been up for it. At the least you know Bader is good at D while being at least a competent hitter

Hopefully they have something up their sleave for a proven hitter of some kind but my guess is their hoping Mitchell stays healthy, and then have Perkins/Jett after that.  And if those fail there is the obvious deadline move, I bet Mark Canha will be out there.

I like our CF options better than paying Bader that much

Yeah turns 32 in June and has had one good season in the last 4 years. Substantially overperformed his underlying numbers last season and is no longer a plus baserunner like he was in the past. Maybe he can keep it going for another year but I'm not buying it.

Bader seems like a douche, glad I don't have to root for him...

I wouldn’t call Bader a competent hitter.  He had a good year last year which was BABIP driven.

He has a career .247/.313/.401 slash line.  The last three years he has been a below average offensive player prior to last season.  Career wise he has been below average offensively.  I am glad the Brewers passed on him.  He is basically a slightly worse version of Jeffrey Hammonds.

He seemed like a legit "cheap" option, decent bang for the buck with some proven performance. But not ideal either. Kind of coin flip on what he might give you at the plate. My kid is a Twins fan, so I saw a fair amount of Bader last year, and he just struck me as one of those solid contributors who doesn't get a lot of fanfare. I can take it or leave it though.

Cordero trade is another good one. Lots of meh players back. Off the top of my head we got stars such as Kevin Mench, Lance Nix, and 1-2 pitchers maybe I forget. Rick Helling?

Cordero turned into Greinke and Yelich through his FA compensation of Jake Odorizzi.
