The fact that Kyle Tucker, who was very average for the Cubs most of last year, gets the 2nd highest AAV contract in the history of baseball given to him by the Dodgers, should be the final nail in the coffin towards 1-2 seasons of no baseball after this season to get the rest of MLB in the same financial galaxy as the Dodgers.  The gap between them and the Yankees/Phillies of the world is about as big as the gap between the Yankees/Phillies of the world and the Pirates.

Disgusting

I think the Dodgers pay a 110% tax on cap overages so 4/240 turns into 4/504 after taxes. Yes, that is 126 million a year in actual money (probably massive referrals on that). That is likely more (or right around) than our entire roster at the start of the year for 120 games a year of Kyle Tucker.

This is just sick, I think the Dodgers have passed the villains threshold.

When I see fans of the Mets, Phillies, Yankees, Giants and Blue Jays calling for a lock out this might just be the straw the broke the camels back…….

Can't wait to see the specifics.

How much will be deferred?

This is off the charts gross.

The Big Leagues are the Rig Leagues!
The LA Dollars strike again!
Fans need to strike, too ...... UNTIL MLB fixes the Rigged League!
MLB says they try to protect the integrity of the game with respect to cheating/gambling, etc., BUT the MLB cheats the mid and small markets!

MLB are hypocrites and cheats!

This makes it easy on Mark A. He can just throw his hands up and say what do you want me to do?

...but give me another 500 million dollars of taxpayer money so I can stay competitive.

Seeing “big market” fans complain about being poor melts my heart. Welcome to the club! Nobody listened to the cries of the true small markets for decades but now that Astros and Yankees fans feel poor we suddenly need a salary cap.

Bye bye 2027 MLB season...

At this point, I will actually be pissed if they avoid a work stoppage/missed season or two and dont fix this problem.  There is every reason why every other team not named the Dodgers should go to the mat to end this crap.

Dodgers giving out $64M signing bonuses on 4 year deals while nearly a third of the league doesn’t presently have a TV provider. Awesome stuff.

Three-peat, then bust?

How do you roster an entire team made up of old guys way past their primes in 2027-2030?;

They have so much budget and prospect capital that it doesn't really matter. They can sunset an older player into a part time role while paying him $30M and still fill the innings with a good player from prospect or trade or FA.

The other large market teams were not happy about the Dodgers deferring money on the Ohtani deal.  I think with this Tucker deal something will get changed on the deferred money and the luxury tax.  Teams will still be able to do the deferred money but how it is handled in the luxury tax will change.

I wouldn't be surprised if the luxury tax is changed completely.  There still won't be a salary cap like in the NFL as there are not enough owners in favor to get that passed but that may change if the east coast teams get hit with less TV money but I doubt that will happen as most of the large market east coast teams own their TV rights and either fully own or partially own the broadcasting stations.

A salary cap won't work because of the TV revenue being what it is.  MLB would have to own all of the TV rights for a salary cap to work.

I think MLB will instead of instituting a salary cap will do something closer to what the NBA is doing.  The MLB has already started this with the luxury tax on teams that go over the spending.  The tax just needs to be more than money.  I have said this before but going over the tax needs to have more punishments to the team.  Something like removing international free agent bonus money.  For example if a team goes over the first apron they only have 50% of their international free agent bonus money.  If they go over the second apron they only receive 10% of their international free agent bonus money.  The same with the draft if they go over the first apron their first pick in the draft becomes a 3rd round pick.  If they go over the second apron their first pick in the draft becomes a 6th round pick.

Some other penalties would be a team over the 1st apron can not offer a qualifying offer to their own free agents.  Something revolving around trades could also be done.  Also if a team over the first apron signs a qualifying offer FA then they lose their 3rd round pick.  If the team is over the 2nd apron or the signing takes them over the 2nd apron their first pick will be after round 10 of the MLB draft.  The team losing a QO player gets a pick after the 1st round of the draft if they are under the 1st apron.

In order for the players to accept this a salary floor would have to be implemented as the owners are not going to share revenue with the players.  A salary floor starting at $100mm in 2028 sounds fair to me and this number would increase based on revenue.  The salary floor couldn't go lower than $100mm and can only increase depending on revenue.  For MLB to lower the floor revenue information would have to be shared to prove the lowering with the players union.

They wont, because theyll keep funneling in a top prospect here and there or signing younger premier free agents along the way. They have a bottomless piggy bank to offset costs and the deferred money/luxury tax element doesnt have nearly enough teeth in it to harm any current or future onfield talent the Dodgers will put on the field.

This would be a total bummer. Just wiping out a year or maybe more of our awesome farm system players getting better and older.

Why couldn't this of happened when the Brewers sucked early 2000s? :)
