I could see the Brewers picking up Manoah and seeing if they could fix him.  I wouldn't be surprised if he was added as starting depth.

The bold move is sign Jonah heid and bring Quero up after a month to manipulate.   But that catching situation is a gamble that likely works well if we can get a big haul for Contreras.  Thoughts!??

Sounded okay at first until Contreras gets traded. Can't see that happening, it would kill this team.

Contreras isn't going anywhere.  Any offer we would accept would have to be over the moon good.

Trading him would have a horrible effect on this team.

I like Jonah Heim … but as a back up … certainly not as a Contreras replacement

In theory you would net WAR between Heim and Quero vs Contreras when taking in consideration of what we get for Wild Bill.  Again, just throwing at the wall here…

Heim last year was a 0.4 WAR. That would mean Quero would have to be a 3.6 to exceed Contreras' 3.9 WAR this last year. I don't see that happening.  I can't see the Brewers getting a big enough return for Contreras to make them even consider a trade.

Reports are that Quero is struggling to throw the ball still since the surgery…….hopefully the arm strength returns but the baseball America and fan graph guys were underwhelmed with what they saw.

He was averaging around 31-32% CS rate prior to the injury and 19% at AAA last year.  Perhaps he never bounces back to the level he had (which was pretty high), but I wouldn't be surprised if this year is much better.

I'd assume the Brewers will bring in some competition for ST at least and see where he is then.

You would trade Contreras next year after he hits all season this year, after getting his finger fixed - if Quero or somebody was ready.  Or it is the Adames route.

Supposedly we would have a very good idea what we had in Quero after next season.

What I am saying is a hypothetical trade of say Contreras for Neto (just throwing out a name) might be better for the team with Heim/Quero handing the catching that running back the same lineup as last years great performing team.

I think you are massively over valuing Heim here. There’s a good chance he is nothing more than a mid-level backup going forward.

My biggest push back against trading Contreras this year as opposed to next is the young pitching that performed well this year. Priester, Miz, Henderson, Patrick, etc ... a deal would have to knock me into next week to agree to get rid of the chemistry/understanding Contreras had with them. There is a decently strong argument we are protecting our rotation for the next 3-5 years by keeping Contreras for one more. Let the kids gain confidence and learn one more year with Bill and then let the cards fall where they may..

Neto imo would be worth it and a hypothetical trade would likely involve more pieces, maybe both ways.

I would be making the trade with the knowledge that Quero is more or less ready to take over in a similar fashion to Drake Baldwin for Sean Murphy.   I need to have that confidence and that’s Arnold’s call, not yours or mine.

And not when the Braves chose Sean Murphy over William Contreras...

Manoah signs with the Angels for 1.95mm.  Good deal for the Angels here.  Not sure that is the right spot for him to rebuild his value but ok.

We don't know that Quero is ready. The back looks as good as ever but we will not know whether it's good enough for MLB until he faces big league pitchers. The defensive step back is also concerning. Bad year in AAA and from what I've read he has not looked any better in Venezuela.
