Game 12: Packers @ Lions - Thursday, Nov. 27th @ 12:00 PM - Happy Thanksgiving!

Posted

Short week turn around for two teams with SB expectations... yet neither really living up to that hype.  The short week probably favors the home Lions over the beat-up Packers, though I expect a few players were held out against the Vikings to be ready for the Lions.

Both teams recently beat the NYG...though barely in both cases.  Maybe the Packers feel a little better about a close game in NY rather than the Lions having to scramble back before winning on OT at home. But here we are with both teams looking up at the Bears 2/3rds of the way through the season.

May Jordan Love always remember the great turkey leg snub... and come back to win it every chance he gets!

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Love seems to always play well on Thanksgiving in a small sample. And yes, the turkey leg snub is a great chip on your shoulder. Looking back that was an awesome game 2 years ago?

In a way I'm glad the Lions won yesterday. I'd rather face a team that barely scraped by a bad team in overtime than a team that lost to a bad team at home.

Are you talking about the Packers or the Lions here?

The Packers beat the Vikings in OT?

No but they almost lost to the Cowboys in OT.

Sorry, you made a spelling error....should be "Bears or the Lions here?"

And the Bears nearly lost to the Raiders, Commanders, NYG, Bengals, Vikings, and Steelers (with a backup QB)... *checks notes* that is 6 of your 7 wins...

Get them in while you can - reality starts this weekend 😀

Well they only need to win two more games to get to 10 wins and make the playoffs so I like my chances.  Especially when I figured they would go at best 9-8.

Gotta say I’m impressed.  Figured as a Bears fan you woulda learned by now, but good for you… suppose it is better to be unrealistically optimistic than the opposite.

What two W’s do you see on the schedule for a team that has given up the 6th most points against one of the easiest schedules so far?

Their defense sucks but the offense is actually really solid.  They have one win against the Browns and then probably have a 50-50 shot of winning one of two against the Packers.  That gets the Bears to 10 wins.

I'll have a busy day tomorrow.  We're probably having about 14 people over for Thanksgiving.  My older USAF son is getting married on Saturday.  He's doing the whole thing in OSH.  Her family's coming up from Alabama.  He's currently stationed in Mississippi.  My other son's in-laws are here from Quebec.

I'm sure we'll all be at the TV at noon.

Questions are a burden.   And answers a prison for one's self.

10 wins isn't a playoff guarantee.  There are six teams in the North and West with 7+ wins, one of them will be left out.

I think it is.  Look at the remaining schedules for the playoff teams.  Most are playing other contenders.

I think Packers should win today unless they are on the wrong side of the turnover differential

That is exactly my point. They have had a solid O and terrible D against one of the easiest schedules… now you have possibly the toughest remaining schedule.

It just feels like the Bears are setting one of their usual traps and you’re all falling for it again…

I hope you are right, I am cautiously optimistic but road games on Thursday are tough. Have to get Goff off his spot and he isn't as good, we seem to be bad matchup for them in that regard. We did drill these guys week one. Like James Jones just said on radio it's go time!

I wouldn't ever count the Browns as a W.

No team with a front 7 like that is a guaranteed win.

Especially that time of the year, the Browns in Chicago on December 14th? If there's wind and the Browns make it ugly?

I'd say looking at the odds and performance thus far this year, 1 of 2 vs the Packers is a good bet. The 49ers could also be a W if they're out of it by then(and given how beat up they are).

Starting off with some amazing special teams as usual. An award returner would have let that ball bounce out of bounds and get it on the 40. Melton fields it, doesn’t get much of a return, and we get knocked back 10 yards on the flag. Of course.

I think losing Quay Walker is a MASSIVE loss vs this Detroit team.

No Walker or Hobbs... which hurts vs Gibbs. Hobbs isn't exactly Deion(or hell, Eric Stokes in coverage) but he's a physical slot. No Golden... or Reed(not that I expected him back). Wicks still hobbled.

Also being down LVN and Karl Brooks is a big blow. Hoping LVN would be healthier, not out.

We need Brinson to keep playing well. Stackhouse made some great plays vs the run last week.

I could see them winning, but I could also see this being like Thanksgiving two years ago where the Lions beat the Packers early and the Lions came out and just went Belt to... well, you know.

It's time for the NFC teams to start to separate from the rest of the league and thus far, it's been the Rams who've done so more than anyone.

The three pre-season favorites, GB, Philly and Det all look... just kinda 'meh,' so far.

Unless MLF trusts Love a bit more and the OL plays better;

Prediction Det 31-Packers 20

Two absolutely brutal throws from Jordan back to back. Not the worst start, but that should have been a 7 point drive.

Amen.
