"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Do we really think they are gonna call up Quero to play 1 out of every 6 days? It's gotta be Wild Bill.

Yes considering he’s by far their best backup C option with McGuire gone.

Could be Bill still, but don’t think that alone says anything.

But wouldn't you want him playing rather than riding the bench?

For 10 days, I think you just want your best guy.

Query is really the only option for today and the extreme short term for backup catcher.  He's the only one on the 40 man,  and I can't think Ramon Rodriguez would deserve a 40 man spot .  So, it's either very short term, or he's a place holder until they can add a more experienced catcher to the 40 man.

I thought Vaughn's exit was weird, though it was like 11-1 at the time, so easy to chalk up as blowout decision-making.

Has Quero played first? Just going with Bauers/Contreras there? Yelich? Outside of Bauers, I think William has like 2 games at first? I don't remember Christian ever playing there. Maybe they are confident this will be short-term for Vaughn?

Kind of a weird situation, but maybe I'm missing something. Black can play first, right? I trust all will become clear.

Gary can also play 1B

Bauers is going to get every day playing time for the first time in his career……maybe the occasional day off vs tough lefty.

Lockridge and Perkins your table is ready.

good for Quero this is exciting, but what the heck with the hand injuries.  It has been all these weird injuries - the labrum tears (Nelson, Quero, and was Mitchell a labrum too?) and now it's the hand (Contreras last year, and now BOTH Chourio and likely Vaughn). C'mon can we catch a break please.

I tell you March/April is mixed with such anticipation AND gut wrenching disappointment with the injury news (last year it was every starting pitcher and I think their neighbors were hurt too), this year it is Priester, Henderson, Chourio, Vaughn already....

Yep. And pretty much the ONLY guy. This would've been a perfect situation for Jorge Alfaro if he was still in the organization. But you can't stash guys like you used to.

I think Sanchez will be starting at 1B vs LHP & quite possibly will PH for Bauers if a lefty enters & we're trailing. We'll see.

The item just says that Contreras isn’t the corresponding roster move, it doesn’t say he isn’t injured.

Is this a Yelich type situation where he’s got an injury issue of some type that may not require a trip to the IL so they are bringing up Quero to catch in the short term?

If Contreras isn’t catching or at DH tonight, we’ll know that something is going on. Maybe just some kind of personal situation.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I thought I had seen somewhere on the interwebs that Quero was back in the 1.90s in pop time again? Can anyone confirm?
