A strong series against the Cards and the Pirates will again be in the mix for third place, which is a much better outcome than the Cardinals being there.

Their opener's name is misspelled in the thread title, but not a huge deal.

I said this in the previous IGT a few minutes ago, but this is a mismatch on paper, and therefore, it'll probably go south. Bullpen is in pretty good shape if this were a single game day...

The ideal situation is something like Miz goes 6 shutout innings or so with say a 5 or 6 run lead and then you have Stallings finish out game 1. At that point you can pretty much run Game 2 like a normal game except Megill isn't available (I would assume)

Hah, I literally looked at his name, noted it was Svanson, and my fingers refused to type it that way.

Given the light panic of the projected situation after Woodruff left the game a few nights ago - the bullpen is in as good of shape as we could have hoped I think.

Theoretically if you can get 10 combined of the 18 from Miz and Gasser .. you would need 1 each from the remaining 8 who are available (assuming Megill is down). Any additional length today from either starter or any reliever and we shouldn't be too stressed?

I think it would be ideal to stay away from Chad Patrick today too. After 2 inning yesterday and the shaky results recently, it would be nice if you can give him a day and let him keep stacking successful outings for a bit. He’d be my 8th guy, in case of emergency today.

Also see that STL has Dobbins - their designated "27th man" - listed as Game 2 starter against Gasser. Looks like Zimmerman (who pitched for us briefly) is slated to come in after the opener in the first game. Cards manager said Zimmerman could throw 175 pitches today, so could be in on both ends of the twin bill - plan is probably to sacrifice him today and replace him tomorrow just to get through this series.

Well there it is……..my guess is the reason for Jones is because he has had at least some experience at 3rd? …….otherwise they could have just kept Perk.

Do what you need to do to win game 1. If you do that, I don’t care if it’s a gasser/stallings tandem and you live with the results.

I would love to see the 3B depth chart between Greg Jones, Andrew Vaughn, Sal Frelick, and Tyler Black. Talk about your murderers row defensively.

Jones has never played 3B in professional ball. He's played 2B & SS in the minors.

Christopher Sanchez gave up 9 runs yesterday, big chance for Mis to widen the cy young gap. Ohtani probably his competition now but has thrown a ton of innings.

Good chance to do major damage to the cards if the offense can show up early in both games. Excited to watch Lara at some point today.

Heck, he could cover both games with 175 pitches!

Has he ever been on a team with no back up 3rd basemen? Lol

🤷‍♂️
