It's probably unreasonable to expect the Brewers to beat the Cardinals every time.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Except for the 7th inning in the second game on Tuesday the Cardinals pitchers have done a pretty good job containing the Brewers offense.

The two pitchers the Brewers have faced in the series who are part of the Cardinals regular rotation (May and McGreevey) held them to 1 run in 11 innings.

Tonight the Cards start Pallante who (along with McGreevey) has been one of their best starters. Unless the Brewers offense can shake out of its recent malaise it’s going to be another grinder.

The Cardinals often play afternoon games on getaway days, but apparently that’s only when it’s a getaway day for them. Screw the opponent.

This could be even more significant today because the forecast in St. Louis calls for a chance of scattered thunderstorms at times during the day and tonight. It might have been helpful to get the game in before any storms move in.

The Angels are notorious for this. They scheduled a game last year against Pittsburgh with a 6:29 start which is the latest they are legally allowed to start under the CBA. All the AL West opponents hate them because the flights home are all under 2.5 hours so they always schedule night games on weekday getaways. Even when they are forced to do a day game they will often start at 4.

Since the STL to PIT flight for us is under the limit, the Cards can get away with a night game.

The Cubs and Orioles were scheduled for tonight but they moved the start time up to this afternoon because of storms in the forecast..

Based on radar and comments from the announcers about the sky getting darker they might mot have started early enough.

Cubs give up 2 in the 8th and lose to the Orioles 3-2

The Orioles only had 3 hits in the game. Alonso had a HR early, and the tying and winning runs scored on back to back HBPs and a 2 run pinch hit double

Is it me or am I wrong for thinking the cubs aren’t that good.    I can’t believe they are 12 games over .500

The Cubs have a potent offense that went through an inexplicable slump earlier this year. But their pitching has been scrambled by injuries.

If they can get some pitchers back and add a couple others at the deadline they will be a likely playoff team and could definitely challenge the Brewers for the division.

The last time I looked at projections they had them with about the same record as the Brewers the rest of the way. The projections seem to recognize that the Brewers offense is more middle of the pack than elite.

They can score runs. But for me there's a difference between that, and HAVING to score runs. Unless their bats get & stay hot over a prolonged stretch it'll be a challenge for them to sustain.

So it'll be either a six-or seven game lead going into the final series before the ASB. Heading into this scary, Bataan Death March portion of the sked they were up 6.5 games. Devastating.

I could see Pca going into a big slump after the all star break.  But Suzuki is having a nice year
