Brewers could have easily beat that offer, but obviously chose not to.  I'm fine with that, SCREW THE DODGERS!

SMH...The brewers were once again all talk. There are no guarantees even with Skubal, but dammit, at some point you have to "go for it". If not now, when? Everyone here loves their prospects so much, and that's ridiculous. Can anyone of you tell me which of those prospects will ever be better than Tarik Skubal will be? I'm all ears if you can. So what you have him for 2 months, but you'd be putting yourself in position to finally get back to a world series. If it doesn't work, then it doesn't, at least you'd have been serious about giving it a shot.

How do any of us know if miz will be healthy next year or in future years, or be as dominant as he has been this year. Turang and Contreras will be gone soon, and then what? Again, if not now, when?

The equivalent prospects from the brewers system would have been Adamczewski, Braylon Payne and Blake Burke. Big freaking deal. This tells me the Brewers were NEVER truly serious about going after him, especially if it came down to whether or not they would give up Pena. Just unbelievable.  Well actually sadly I guess it's not, this is the Brewers afterall.

I’m half joking but Ryan doesn’t have much prospect luster compared to some guys the Brewers could’ve sent

A couple of texts from rival evaluators on what it took the Dodgers to get Tarik Skubal:

💬 "That's all?"

💬 "I'm shocked."

EXACTLY how I feel. Brewers could have easily beaten that, but obviously wussed out, so they let him go to the Dodgers, the team they are hoping(but unlikely will) beat in the playoffs. Mark A must be so proud, he got to have another "summer of fun" for the fans. Matt Arnold doesn't have anywhere near the kuhunas Doug Melvin did. Can't wait to see all the Brewers great "prospects" in the bigs in the next few years after Turang and Contreras are gone. Melvin would have NEVER not gotten that deal done. Maybe it wouldn't have worked, but at least they would have tried and gone for it

Would of taken pena and henderson to beat the Dodgers probably I personally wouldnt of given henderson straight up for skubal the way henderson is pitching he might finish the rest of the year out pitching as good as skubal

Pena and Henrderson would easily beat that deal but they could have topped it with just Pena and a couple of  guys in the Brewers #10-20 range. It seems like a weak deal for the Tigers to me, really hinges on Ryan panning out. Oh well, we all knew this was how it would end.

Some fans here might be okay with Skubal going to LA, but I assure you, the people who matter most, the current players are NOT ok with it. People like to talk about how the Hader trade crashed the clubhouse, and it did. But what people don't get is so do NOT doing deals like this. Every single player on this team heard and saw the rumors that the Brewers were in on him and McCalvy's reporting that this year was different and they were going big game hunting. Hell some of the players even commented on it(leading up to the deadline) and Murph commented on it just last night after the trade was made.

Do you think the current players and Murph, really give a rats ass about having to trade some prospects to give this team a better chance to win a WS? They don't and they shouldn't. They care about the here and now, and they should. No one knows what's going to happen in the future, and in a couple years Turang and Contreras and several others on this current roster will be gone and they will have never been. I shouldn't be surprised I guess that Arnold wussed out, and wasn't willing to do whatever it took to A. Give up what was needed(within reason of course), and B. to not allow the dodgers to get him.

The thing is, he will NEVER have to answer for it. That's the worst thing about it. I would love to hear an explanation as to why he didn't get this done. I'm sure it would be some lame answer about "we didn't think it was in the best interest of the Brewers, blah blah blah."  or " We did everything we could(obviously you didn't) and just couldn't get it over the finish line".Tell us why you think that. Tell us EXACTLY why, tell us why you weren't willing to give up more to get the deal done. But of course, he won't. Tell us what the breaking point was who they asked for that you wouldn't part with, or maybe...you never even made an offer, that's a likely possibility too. It's just gross. If not now, then when?

The demand for Henderson was a young potential ace who had proven himself at the MLB level.

The demand for Made was the #1 prospect in baseball.

instead they got a 28 year old “prospect” who was neither a proven MLB ringer or anyone near #1 prospect statius

Thinking about it more it probably would have taken Pena and Henderson to top it, or at least Henderson and Josh A. Henderson is in our rotation with I think 5 more years of control, Ryan not in LA rotation or needed with 4 more years. Maybe a similar deal but just a lot steeper price for the Brewers unfortunately. Happy to keep our guys, just don't pull a Schoop type deal after losing out this time.

Henderson alone tops that package. I believe this was collusion by the Tigers to get the lockout and secure a salary cap, so to get Skubal the Brewers had to pay a premium. That package is trash outside of Hope who is more on Adamczewski level of prospect. Arguably he is more flawed.

Doug Melvin is a gentleman of the highest integrity — but baseball has passed him by. It took this FO nearly a decade to complete the infrastructure rebuild necessary to be able to compete with the behemoths of this sport. Be thankful Attanasio recognized he needed to move on from Mr Melvin to have any chance to compete with the LM teams in this day and age with disparages in revenue of over $300M, and in the case of the LAD, $500M.

The Dodgers have the ability, thanks to their massive revenue & geography, to build their team thru FA and trades. They don’t need to install their prospects like we do — they can just collect prospect talent and use the talent to acquire veteran talent, thus skipping the growing-pains of the medium & SM teams have to go thru finishing-off the development of their prospects.

This team can absolutely compete with the Dodgers, just like an inferior Blue Jays team came within 1 pitch of upsetting the Dodgers in last years WS.

We have a back-to-back 2 time executive of the year leading this organization to greatness. We have the best amateur prospect-procurement in the sport. We have outstanding player development and coaches. All we need is time — and patience to see this thru. I’m betting on Matt Arnold & co being able to do this.

We have a front office that aren't idiots. I'm more than happy to see what happens the rest of the season and into the near future. I love how well positioned they are. There are so many teams out there that are watching how the Brewers operate and they are envious. The beauty in this is that the Brewers and Dodgers are right at the top of smart operations in baseball yet they are separated by how they are doing it by their differences in philosophy due to being at the literal top of the food chain market wise and the literal bottom market wise. How is this not fun?

Do they hang a banner for that? If not, maybe they should since he's leading them to "greatness". Idk, Greatness to me is winning a WS, but I guess many are happy just making the playoffs and "seeing what happens". The old hope being used as a strategy. How many of these prospects will actually ever one day be major contributors to the Brewers? Because if anyone thinks even half of them will be, I have some swamp land to sell them. What good does having the best farm in baseball do you if, when the stakes are highest, you are too afraid to part with any of them? Who cares about Luis Pena or Josh Adamczewski or Braylon Payne? Does anyone realistically think all 3 of them will be major Brewer contributors at some point? Good luck, the odds don't favor it.

As Theo Epstein said with the Cubs "if not now, then when"? You have the best young pitcher in baseball you don't think pairing him with the reigning two time Cy young award winner wouldn't send a message to the rest of the league and most importantly to the rest of the team? Who would want to deal with those two in the playoffs. Instead the Brewers will likely have to face him.

I can't wait to see the two time executive of the years next move after this Holy crap, just wait baseball..because the Brewers were going for "big swings" and wait until you see what Arnold has up his sleeve now.. I'm telling you the Dodgers and the rest of the National league will be quaking in their boots when the Brewers are lining up Miz and Micahel Wacha 1-2 in the playoff rotation and then bring Anthony Sanzetela out of the BP later in the game in a high leverage spot. Talk about taking a big swing...that will set baseball ablaze at how huge of a swing that is. I feel bad for the current players who have a front office that apparently talk a good game, but then don't back it up when it matters most. Great message that sends, you value your future more than the present.

It's fun winning division titles and then crapping the bed in the playoffs? That's fun to you? You play to win the game(that means a WS), do you truly believe the Brewers are positioned to do that right now at this moment? Do you believe they are truly positioned in the best way they can possibly be(at this moment) to increase their chances of even making the WS?

That the two time executive of the year wasn't willing to top this crap deal, just shows that he has ZERO stones. Heck it even sounded like the owner(his boss) gave him the greenlight to do anything he wanted, and he still wussed out. It may not have guaranteed a WS(nothing does) but it would have increased their odds and put them in a better position to do so. Instead now we get to puff our chests out about having the best minor league system in baseball still. That's certainly contributing to helping them win a world series this year.

Lets save the tar and feathers for after the deadline.  As the article said...the Brewers knew they might have to pivot and lets see where it goes.  Plenty of time for that later...  (but I've got a barrel of pitch warming up)  ;)

This general debate has been happening on this forum for years.

Short answer is, yes, we had a lot of fun last summer when we decimated our divisional opponents. Our biggest rivals hate us because of our current run of dominance. And then we went into the playoffs and took care of business against a Cubs team that was motivated and out for revenge. The way this team stomps through the regular season will never stop being fun to me. I will never take it for granted.

Everybody in baseball feels the same way about the Dodgers. It's not just us. Even fans of traditional big markets are upset with the current situation. Skubal wouldn't have guaranteed anything. I hate it as much as you and I've been pulling hard for a Skubal trade on this forum, but making a move that increases our 2026 WS odds in exchange for decreasing our 2027, 2028, 2029, 2030, 2031, etc. odds is extremely risky given our massive financial disadvantage.

Although honestly I think the simpler answer is that we have a list of that prospects we are willing to move and Detroit didn't want them, and there's nothing we could have realistically done about that.

I think it's more likely given how Arnold operates that he didn't even make an offer. Because if he was serious about "swinging" big, he'd have found a way to get this done and taken their chances. The Packers gave up two first round picks to acquire Micah, I was overjoyed that they finally had the balls to give up first round picks. They may never win a SB with him, but at least they put their nuts on the table and went for it. You can never be faulted for that.

Can’t be impatient.

Need to trust the process. Slow and steady wins the race.

When a franchise can’t buy talent, they have to develop it. This should be easy for all of us to understand as Brewers fans. No shortcuts. Keep accumulating prospect talent. Continue to develop the talent and eventually there will come a point where the big-league roster is talented enough with organizational talent that is deep enough that the team can “go for it” at the trade-deadline if it makes sense to do so — that time is not now.

Fortunately, we are getting closer to that time thanks to the talent of our FO and infrastructure.

MLB players should be pissed! So let them take charge of their union! At $167 million the Dodgers pay more "Competetive Balance Tax" than the Brewers' and some others payroll.
