I don’t really care we didn’t trade a crap ton of talent to get him, but the Dodgers getting him? There is no relief in that. It’s pretty sad and pathetic.

100% this. I'm not expecting any baseball to be played in 2027. I hate it, but I've made peace with it. It's more a matter of what does baseball in 2028 (if that ends up happening) looks like moving forward.

That's why Skubal "only" got $32 million in arbitration, not the $19 million Detroit wanted to pay, or the $500 billion that LA or some other team would offer to pay to Skubal's great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandchildren. I'm half joking.

I'm not sure it's really the pre-injury Skubal the Dodgers traded for.

I think Skubal to the Dodgers was the most obvious trade in the market. That would have been like Pena, Josh A, and Letson value for us to make that deal just to much.

I think our strategy need to be just do what we do. Make the best deals to make our team better while maintaining a strong future.

Imagine baseball experts thinking Henderson is the equivalent of river ryan and we should have just gave him up for  this dude and then he goes to the dodgers in two months anyways

Sounds like Brandon Woodruff along with that growing injury history...and he's only a couple years younger than him, too.  More comparable to him than a much younger Henderson, who has actually been able to pitch the past few years at the MLB level.

Couldn't agree more. The Dodgers are always about getting the best players, while we're about getting the best value. Skubal's teammate Casey Mize is almost having the exact same season as Skubal statistically and we could probably get him at less than half the value of what the Dodgers just gave up. I have confidence Arnold will find the best value left on the market, and if it's not there, I also have confidence he'll roll with what we have.

Even if it was inevitable, it’s hard for me to not feel disappointed. 
 

I guess I prefer him going to the Dodgers than the Braves, Cubs, or Phillies. We will still have a tough path to even see a match up with LA.

I think the Dodgers acquiring Skubal shows you the advantage of their scouting and coaching machine. 
 

In 2024 Michael Busch was blocked with the Dodgers so they shipped to the Cubs for Zyhir Hope who was 19 years in A ball at the time. 
 

The Padres wanted Matt Beaty as a left handed utility player and traded River Ryan to the Dodgers who was a hitter and 11th round pick at the time. The Padres dropped Beaty after one year

The Dodgers  coached both Hope and Ryan into big time prospects then cashed them in for Skubal along with only one player that was their own draft pick. 
 

The Brewers are likely trying to build their own system like that which is why it’s unlikely they trade any of their routes minor leaguers

Have there been any studies done that look at a large sample of MLB Pipeline Top 100 prospects in the modern era, say 2008-2025, and weighed how each prospect ended up performing in baseball relative to their team and ranking?

I think that’d be a great analytical study to be able to weigh if market bias exists. 

River Ryan seems to be a textbook case. I can’t imagine if we had a 28 year old identical pitching prospect in our system that he would be regarded at all, but I also don’t really know if it really is justified. 

Drohan seems like our closest comparable but he was with the Red Sox organization when he was a prospect.

I’m fine with a salary cap but the cap doesn’t itself really solve anything without other changes to supplement it like a salary floor and more comprehensive revenue sharing. 

Something closer to the NFL model than the current MLB model.

Except MLB is, collectively, the owners and this is an ownership issue.  The idea that they need to punish players in order to police themselves is an odd one, at least to me.

NBA NFL and NHL have competitive balance, MLB does not. Free agency is a joke, it’s more like the big markets chance to bulk up. 
 

The ceiling/floor system with full revenue sharing is fair. Raise the minimum wage, which will help a great percentage of players. Just have to get the numbers/money to work.

They’re directly comparing Logan Henderson to River Ryan which is pretty much us comparing Will Smith to Gary Sanchez.

Don't need a salary cap or floor nearly as much as baseball needs full revenue sharing.  I would bet the Dodgers bring in more revenue themselves that doesnt need to be shared than the bottom half of mlb combined

It absolutely exists - remember in the 90s when the yankees where outbidding everyone and winning everything, so many of their blue chip prospects they traded away amounted to nothing, too.

I’m fairly certain Mason Miller won’t be moved. The Padres are in the WC race, their GM is known for being aggressive and Miller isn’t a rental. There’s just very little motivation for them to move him unless they get blown away. 

Luke Weaver would be a nice get.
