If Murphy showed any semblance of consistency then Ortiz would be coming in mid inning as a defensively replacement. Hamilton has cost  the Brewers nearly half a dozen runs today

Murphy would probably say there's a difference between physical errors and mental errors.

It’s not Coleman Crow versus Dustin May.  I wouldn’t pitch Coleman Crow over Dustin May in a vacuum. I also wouldn’t give up the guys we did for a move that probably moves the needle maybe 1-2 wins (and won’t even end up doing that) over the course of 2 months.

Like I said, you can’t have the prospect love and also expect to bring in a bunch of difference makers at the deadline. They’re mutually exclusive. Now if you think they should’ve stood pat and maybe burned out all their arm in the process, thats a fair point, but you’re a more sophisticated fan than that so I chalk it up to hyperbole

I like Murphy and I think the players do as well. That being said, Murphy does make some head scratching decisions.

You said you can’t have prospect love and expect difference makers. Okay, but they didn’t actually get any difference makers.  None of the guys they acquired even profiled as differences makers.

I don’t understand why you think they needed to burn out all their arms if they didn’t make these deals. Sproat could have eaten up innings. Crow could have eaten up innings. Wilson has eaten up innings. Koenig could have eaten up innings, Kuhnel could have eaten up innings, Gordon could have eaten up innings.

Sure, it might not have been pretty all the time but it hasn’t been pretty anyway. They had guys to chew up innings to get to the finish line. All we’re trying to do is survive and get to the finish line. If we aren’t going to get actual difference makers, none of these other guys are moving the needle toward that goal.

Today? Butchered two ground balls leading to runs,

OK, he sucked today.  On your barometer, you would end his career?

Was nice to see the offense show some fight. We are going to need to see the offense find its groove again because the pitching situation is starting to look a lot more vulnerable than it did a month ago.

Again, it’s the hyperbole. Koenig and Kuhnel eat innings? They both missed huge chunks of time with arm injuries and were ineffective when they returned to health. Sproat didn’t see the 5th inning in the majority of his starts.

It’s dumb and cliche but Counsell wasn’t wrong when he called them out getters. May, Senzetela and Romero aren’t sexy but their unquestionably more reliable out getters than anyone you just cited.

No, I don’t hate Hamilton.

I would however prefer him in more of a utility bat/pinch runner role than Murphy does, however.

The defense of Pratt/Ortiz is worth it, and they do enough with their bats.

I like Murphy. But his insistence on getting Hamilton in the starting lineup the majority of the time is simply mind boggling. Hamilton is a fringe bench player at absolute best.

Every manager has their guys. Who could forget Counsell’s thing for Sogard and Jace Peterson.

I don’t think it’s unique to managers. It just seems when those players then fail it is more visible.

It doesn’t have to be Koenig or Kuhnel. There are guys in an organization’s 40 man roster that can chew up innings.

Out getters? May has given us 9 and 1/3rd total innings in his last 4 appearances. TOTAL. He is not getting us outs. Senzatela has not been good and Romero has barely played.

If you are trying to say that these were necessary deals to get us to the finish line over what our internal options are, sorry, we are just not going to agree. They haven’t moved the needle or gotten outs for us.

If the Phillies can’t pull back ahead, this is going to turn into a 3 way race for seeding in a real hurry.

Atlanta has 4 more against Philadelphia, 3 vs Tampa, 3 vs Cubs. Pretty difficult.

I thought it was Counsell for Ryan Brawn.

Hard to imagine this not being Hamiltons' worst game as a Brewer. He's not going to get buried on the bench as I'm sure some would like, nor should he. But of course Ortiz deserves the majority of time at 3B; that's been the case for awhile. Things snowballed for Hamilton today to the point where in the 8th inning he failed twice to advance the tying runs and he's arguably the best bunter on the team. What he needs right now is to flush this one.

The bigger problem is the rotation behind the top two. Harrison had the opp to close up whatever pitch-tipping stuff was going on, but no improvement in the numbers so now it's a concern. Has he hit an innings wall? Maybe. There are other options, maybe not 6-shutout inning options but people you can combine, piggyback, etc. And I'm sure no one is in a mood for anything positive but it looked to me like May might've figured something out Saturday night before the rains came.

I see some b****ing about the trade acquisitions. No GM anywhere was going to think, before this deadline, that we had better options on our 40-man roster for semi-important innings than Romero or Senzatela. And Romero has been just fine before this weekend; let's let that play out. As for Senzatela---he's been around quite a long time & I've never seen him pitch this poorly away from Coors. Odd.

Cincy has been scoring & playing pretty well for about a week-and-a-half now. That contributed to this. We helped immensely, but they had a lot of good ABs.

Yeah, it's gotten to that point. I understand Pratt not jumping in & being an immediate everyday SS. His offensive #s in AAA were pretty solid but far from flashy, and we all know what Ortiz was (not) doing with the bat until 5-6 weeks ago. And Ortiz had two horrible ABs yesterday so I can see him getting a blow today. But i think you should be looking at Hamilton getting one start a week; perhaps two.
