I'm surprised the game thread kept going so long after the game was declared over after it was 2-0.

That was me. I think most can tell you that I was being sarcastic. I’m viewed as an annoying “positive” poster.

Obviously it doesn't matter and people will think what they want but I think the right field camera (53 seconds) is by far the best view.  That ball is still climbing, it's going pretty slow, not really traveling forward at a high rate that makes you think it's going to have the power to get out.  Then it hits the roof and richchets forward a lot faster than it had been going to me at least.

I don't know, I hated physics, maybe I'm completely wrong about the way the ball is moving and my eyes are super biased or something.  Just seems the longer that ball is in the air and the higher it goes, the more power it loses and I feel where it ended up being caught is about where it would have ended up had it not hit the roof.

When you also consider the amount of backspin that ball had to get that high, as soon as it hits the roof that energy is going to push that ball further out - and the video shows that, too.  Its like a topspin shot on a tennis court, only in reverse since the ball is hitting the ceiling and not the ground.

I think without the roof it winds up foul or its a wall scraper home run - but not some 450' long bomb - high exit velo straight up in the air doesnt mean if it hits the roof 310 feet put that its going another 200 feet further

Honestly I think it was shameful of the broadcast and post game show to act like that was definitively going to be a HR if it didn’t hit the roof. Maybe it would have (I personally think it’s either a fly out or foul ball) but there’s no way anyone definitively knows.

Just a final blurb on this in case anyone is interested........MLB decides whether the roof is open or closed for these games, the Brewers have nothing to say about it.

And, based on what they have done in the past, I expect  that the roof will be closed today because they don’t want the shadows that you get in late afternoon, even though some of the worst of that is what comes through the windows on the west side.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I'm at the tail end of a trip abroad to Italy so missed game 1, but enjoyed catching up on the ~50 page thread. I think I'll still be in the air on our return flight to U.S. today during game 2, but hoping to catch very end in ATL airport for my connection. ... Either way, hopefully I'll have another fun Game Thread read for that parts I miss.

Go Brewers!

At the Metrodome I believe

What do we think about Miz’s start? Some bad luck and unfortunate cutters.

Second inning

Groundball to the hole from Bogaerts. Pratt nearly gets him. Middle-middle slider.

Salas takes cutter way below the zone back up the middle. Tip your cap but again, why a 95 mph cutter?

Campusano takes a middle-middle cutter the opposite way. Bauers nearly got it. See image.

Bauers bobbles the Cronenworth ground ball. Otherwise may have gotten Salas at home. A well-located cutter, clipped the inside corner.

Murphy said after the game that Miz and Contreras didn’t like the FB today and the command was way off for him especially in the 2nd inning. Murphy also commented how his velocity dropped almost 5 mph after that long first inning

Padres had 14 foul balls on two-strike pitches against Miz. They did a great job of staying alive. Dustin Harris (who?) saw 32 pitches in 5 at-bats, including 9-and 7-pitch abs against Miz.

Reverse the teams and that ball hitting the roof is barely a mouse fart this morning.

What is MLB to do with this (pretend) merchandise if the narrative falls apart?

Wouldn’t it make more sense to wait until anyone actually declares the game over to sarcastically go after posters for declaring the game over?

The outrage over something that has been a thing at many MLB ballparks for decades is hilarious. Especially when we don’t even make the decision to open or close the roof (it’s October in Wisconsin, it’s probably going to be closed).

Sorry about building a retractable roof stadium 25 years ago so that we can enjoy outdoor baseball without worrying about constant rain delays or makeup games.

Padres and Cubs fans on Twitter are apoplectic . But honestly, a lot of this is on Amin and Pierzynski for so confidently speculating while not knowing the ground rules. They should have immediately said, “no there is no chance that this will be ruled a homer.”

100%. They set a national false narrative in about 2 minutes. Just really irresponsible.

They also had me despondent for a minute because I also didn’t know the rule and thought we were about to be down 4-3 with Mason Miller coming in.

Ty France’s body language sure made it seem like it was likely going to be a foul ball.

It's his own fault. He needed to help it

If that would have been a home run that was an incredible lucky break and will never know for sure.

Glad that was Jackson Chourio in left field instead of Brandon Bostick.

I have yet to see this get mentioned .. but Ty France never left home plate. I understand the debate/everyone thinks it would have been a home run or foul - but I have decided my new take is that the Padres are lucky Chourio caught it because it is probably a game ending 7-6-4-3 double play if Chourio lets it fall fair.

Padres caught a break :)

does anyone know the news crew that was outside Kelly's bleachers and on the bus ? my nephew and I got on the first shuttle of the day.  as a gawky, just turned 16 year old, he did NOT love a news camera in his face 😆

I will NEVER use a third party ticket app for a game EVER again. what a nightmare.  drove 3 1/2 hours on a whim and essentially paid to sit by the dugout, but ended up nowhere close to that.

i'm coping by telling myself that it was an absolutely incredible game experience.  I think I crossed my eyes and fell face first onto the floor when I got home at 3:40 AM.

oh, and I took a Jackson Merril homerun ball of my stomach during BP.

i'm going back to bed til 3........

A little late to the party.  I find it interesting how some people were talking about backspin and even the Magnus effect.  Apparently, the Magnus effect only applies to the Y axis and not the X axis...

I found a few Twitter gems (sorry... "X").
