  1. I don't recall Bauers playing many games at DH with Hoskins at 1B. You are correct; but I think starting Bauers at DH and Hoskins at 1b in game 1 of the Mets’ series is probably burned in our brains.
  2. Hey, the Brewers' manager has a Manager of the Year award. **Check** Cubs' manager doesn't. **Mate**
  3. I have real respect for the person filming that. Were they skating backward the whole time? And framing it perfectly. Well done!
  4. Cub fans believe that a trade for Luzaedo is imminent.
  5. Bucks shot better from 3 than they did from 2. A 51-15 advantage from three is a good formula
  6. Today I learned that "chalk and cheese" is an expression meaning that they are opposites. Enjoyed the rest of the article, too.
  7. I'd be willing to play with that a little bit if you define what "out-hits their opponent" means. Sheer number of hits? Total bases? Seems like a fun project.
  8. I avidly await the first team that doesn't blink and lets their QB walk instead of paying him. I think the 49ers might be the first. We are getting to what, $70 million for the next QB contract? For Brock Purdy? This year there has been a lot of buzz about the resurgence of the RB position with Henry, Barkley and Jacobs all being excellent as FA acquisitions, and what Montgomery (RIP) and Gibbs are doing in Detroit.
  9. Please keep Civale. I will believe Woodruff is back when he is actually back. Maybe not even then. I'll let you know in October. 4374 outs needed in 162 games, give or take. A guy like Civale, who can get 450-500 of them, is incredibly valuable. Cortes, Peralta, Myers, the same. Several hundred more from some other starters, then start up the bullpen shuttle to get the rest of them.
  10. I see the Padres in 2022 were 22nd in SLG, 8th in OBP. They are an outlier. In the last four years, 12 of the 16 final four teams were in the top seven for slugging. The other four were 10th, 16th and 17th (and none of them were dramatically better in their OBP rank). it doesn’t seem that teams that are low SLG, high OBP, make it far in the playoffs very often.
  11. Give the guy a break. It's over 14 years since he killed anybody. How many of us can say the same?
  12. I would suggest a team of Vince Colemans and a team of Dave Kingman's would both be uniformly awful. No one is suggesting such a binary here. I am asking that the Brewers use their remaining dollars and roster space to find a player or two that has some power. I believe that that will help with the playoffs. The Brewers have the regular season nailed. Let's look toward the playoffs. Last year, among playoff teams, the Brewers were 2nd behind the Dodgers in OBP. They were last in Slugging. They were also last among playoff teams in slugging in 2023. That is where I would look to improve. And if you read page one of the thread, you had two posts by sveumrules and two by wiguy94 and you say that the calls for more power are "reflexive and not backed by data"? Those two guys eat and breathe data.
  13. Thanks, man. But I don't understand what this means. ELI5.
  14. Using last year's team as the baseline is building on sand, in my opinion. They were sixteenth in HR last year, and hitting the same number this year (essentially, with Bauers removed), will still be sixteenth. The OBP model is great for the 162-game season, but I think that we have seen that HRs win in the playoffs, where it is more difficult to string together hits. I've been on this theme for a while now. They were 10th among playoff teams in home runs, and I think that is the group that the Brewers should be compared against. And, Willy Adames hit 13 3-run home runs. That is an anomaly that probably wasn't going to be duplicated, even if Willy was still on the team. Anyone have an easy way to find out what their record was when Willy hit a 3-run homer? Also, adding up all that WAR in the table above comes out to 22.8. The top 18 hitters last year combined for 27 WAR. Any concerns about that drop? I realize that your premise was to discuss home runs and power, but it's all reflected in the WAR totals above. Final question: what was the Steamer projection last year in the preseason? I would be curious to see projection vs reality for last year's team. I am on Team Find More Power.
  15. I agree with this. Averaged 6 innings a start, that’s so valuable for how the Brewers win.
  16. If Cortes can give them 30 starts and 174 innings (5.2 avg) like last year, I'm on board. Brewers starters just seem to be needed to keep the team in the game. If Cortes pitches six and gives up three runs, the Brewers are still in the game. I wish that the Brewers had more pop. Durbin may be a nice player, but doesn't help their power shortage, especially with Adames and his three-run homers gone. MKE was 16th in MLB in homers, 10th among playoff teams. They work so hard to get runs. Game one of 2023 playoffs, it took the Brewers two innings, 12 batters, 45 pitches, a walk, four singles, a sacrifice and a Taylor homer to score three times. 14 pitches and four batters later, the Dbacks had the game tied 3-3 on two homers.
  17. Is there actually any noise about Lux, or does this site keep bringing him up because he is from Wisconsin?
  18. Maybe he feels with Rendon on the team, he will never be criticized as long as he gets over that very low bar of performance. With Rendon playing his usual 30 games, Arenado can play the other 130, and they can count as one roster spot. The Angels can say they have a $70 million salary on the books, just like the Dodgers, only at third base. Call him Rendonado.
  19. Really not liking all the devil talk in this thread. @Fear The Chorizo: Suggesting the Vikings as a possible Super Bowl team? @adambr2: Suggesting you could "almost prefer" a Packer loss to the Vikings? You are ruining my Christmas spirit. Friends don't let friends imagine good things for the Vikings. Next you are gonna tell me that you like that stupid horn they blow at their stadium.
  20. Gonzaga has had four #1 seeds in the last 7 tournaments, despite coming out of a lower-ranked conference. I think that if Marquette takes care of business, they can easily be a #1.
  21. I hate the analogy of getting "in field goal range." I want touchdowns! I know, I'm overthinking it.
  22. Besides, if Packers play the Lions in the playoffs, we get to be told that it’s hard to beat a team three times in a year.
  23. I'm expecting Woodruff to return to dominant form as a top of the rotation starter, shutting out the Yankees on Opening Day, only to suffer a season-ending injury in a freak collision with Polish during the home opener Sausage Race.
