Well, if the Brewers want to keep their hopes of a division title alive (yes, they are still alive), this one is approaching "must win" territory. Making up three games in a ten game period will be difficult, but it isn't unheard of, especially since the Cardinals have what's going to be a very tough 4-game set at Wrigley this weekend, followed by a 3-game set with the DBacks, who are technically still alive, but not by much, then a final 3 gamer against the Cubs at home.

In the end, the Brewers have to take care of business, and let the rest fall as it will.

Division is a big reach at this point. You kinda needed to pick up a game last night with Scherzer going but it didn't work out. The Cards could go 5-5 and the Brewers would have to finish 8-2. And that would only force 163.

I don't think it's improbable at all for the Cubs to take 3 of 4 in Wrigley this weekend. In fact, the Brewers probably need that to happen to even think about a division title. If the Brewers do as this should today and this weekend, there's still a solid shot. If the Brewers win today and sweep the Pirates this weekend (I know, can't bank on sweeps), the Cubs taking 3 of 4 would put the Brewers in a tie with the Cards for the division lead, with a 1-game cushion on the Cubs. Of course, if the Cardinals walk into Wrigley and whip up on the Cubs this weekend, it greatly improves the Brewers' Wild Card hopes.

IMO the Cubs are sort of the dead team walking, so I just don't see them doing the Brewers many favors with STL. No Baez, no Rizzo, an entire season of disappointment. They are the one of the three that just appears fatigued. The Brewers seem to have caught a second wind and the Cardinals are just Cardinaling.

I'm guessing Grandal will be at first tonight. Probably Perez in the lineup too.

My prediction:

Cain

Grandal (1B)

Hiura

Moose

Braun

Perez

Gamel

Pina

Lyles

Wouldn't be shocked to see Arcia at short either, which would move Gamel to 6 and Pina to 7.

I'd be a little surprised if Grandal were in the lineup at all. He looks like he needs a day at this point. Probably Austin playing first. Move everyone up one spot until Perez. Slide Austin in at the 5 spot.

I'm going with a little unusual lineup

Cain

Hiura

Moose

Braun

Austin

Perez

Taylor

Pina

Lyles

With a lefty again tomorrow would start Pina again Friday with Grandal at first.

You might be right. If so then the WC spot is there for the taking. Heck, we still have a decent shot at the 1st WC spot should we continue to roll and the Nats falter. Getting that one WC game at Miller Park would be huge.

With how good Gamel has been versus lefties this year, I'd be very surprised if he wasn't in there today. Might be a good idea to give Grisham a breather as well.

A deep darkhorse for a surprise start today if Pina is still feeling off might be Freitas at catcher. I know Freitas has shown next to nothing in his limited opportunities so far, but the guy destroyed lefties at AAA this year. Probably won't happened, but there is some sense to it.

This dude is a total dumpster fire away from Petco Park. His last start messed up the numbers a bit, but his ERA is 6.19 on the road. He pitched against us well back in June at Petco...I would expect different results this time out.

They did the all lefties thing yesterday so guessing it's the all righties thing today

1. Cain CF

2. Grandal 1B

3. Hiura 2B

4. Moustakas 3B

5. Braun LF

6. Pina C

7. Gamel RF

8. Arcia SS

Edit: Forgot about Pina, probably want to give Grandal a rest behind the plate.

I think this is a winner, except Gamel over Taylor. I also for some reason don't think they'll bat Hiura 2nd. I don't know who else would bat there...just don't think it will be him.

I'm frankly going to be very annoyed if we don't hit Lucchesi hard today. There's just no reason at all that we shouldn't hit him hard. Sinker, changeup, cutter...with below average velocity, mediocre spin rate, and mediocre movement. Nothing in that profile suggests an MLB caliber pitcher.

I'd guess pitching in that home park has something to do with his numbers being good. That park has a way of making mediocre look good.

I was just really confused about why this game hadn’t started yet.

Ya i don't understand the start time either. Maybe the thought process is the Padres get 2 hours heading back to the west coast so they are starting 2 hours later than usual? idk.

I’m puzzled. When I said yesterday that the Brewers’ path to the division title had gotten a lot rougher with the Brewers loss and the Cardinals win, you seemed to disagree with me. But now you’re basically saying exactly what I was saying. ;)

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Well, I'd say I'm generally against the Perez in RF where he's basically barely played this year when Gamel has been solid vs lefties. These type of things almost always end in the head scratcher type player come up with at least two hits. So here's rooting for that
