Brewers trade Feyereisen, Rasmussen to Rays for SS Willy Adames, RHP Trevor Richards

I'm not sure it's reasonable to assume that's "likely." All I would say is likely at this point is that he won't be traded until after this season, at the earliest.

That's my point, given the performance of the current cast of characters in the bullpen he likely won't be traded now until he has 5.5 years of service time. Unless of course, the roster collapses and they decide to rebuild between now and then.

I think we're still not understanding each other. You said "final year of team control". I said this offseason. He has 2.5 years of team control left.

There’s an old adage in baseball, if your bullpen sucks, you suck (look no further than the 2012 Brewer team).

With the trade of Feyereisen and Rasmussen the bullpen is thin, and Hader being incredible prevents one from saying they suck.

Accordingly, Hader likely isn’t going anywhere unless the team decides to rebuild and is ok with the fact they suck

Luis Urias has never had a 4-hit game for the Brewers (87 career games).

Orlando Arcia only had three 4-hit games in 542 career games with the Brewers:

- 9/26/20: 4-for-4 with 2 doubles in a 3-0 win over the Cardinals

- 9/9/20: 4-for-6, 1 2B, no RBIs in a 19-0 victory over the Tigers (Tyrone Taylor also had a 4-hit day that day with a homer, a double, and 3 RBI.  The Tigers suck.)

- The most famous one, 10/1/18: Arcia was 4-for-4 (all singles, no RBI, but 2 runs scored) in our Game 163 win 3-1 over the Cubs.  Pretty huge game, almost certainly the most notable game of Arcia's entire career.

In 365 games with the Brewers, Jonathan Villar only had one 4-hit game on 8/6/16, he was 4-for-6 with two doubles, 2 RBI, 3 runs scored.

Willy Adames has 6 career Brewers games under his belt (only 5 starts), and he already has a 4-hit game.  4-for-5, 2B, HR, 4 RBI, and very solid defensive play.

We'll see how his Brewers career turns out, but that game shouldn't be ignored as one of the best regular season performances by a Brewers shortstop in at least the last 5 years, probably 2nd only to Game 163.  I could've looked back farther but it was kinda tedious (I basically just found game logs for our main shortstops recently, if some bench guy filled in at SS in the last 5 years and had a 4-hit game, I missed those).

Can I just say that the home run he hit yesterday was incredible. Just an absolute blast.

It was crushed, an absolute moonshot. Reminded me of some of the homers hit by Russell Branyan and Prince Fielder.

Braun also hit his share of homers, but I dont recall many going that far up.

Adames has .3 WAR in his first 24 plate appearances. In 2,631 plate appearances between 2017-2020, Brewers shortstops combined for .6 WAR.

Where do you see this number? I guess it's not too hard to believe but from 2017-2021 Arcia had over 2 WAR. Were the backups really worth that much negative WAR during that time? Even using fWAR Arcia was worth over 1 WAR.

Is that Arcia’s total WAR including defense?

Correct. Since the beginning of 2018 he's been replacement level as a whole but 2017 was a nice year for him.

edit - Fangraphs will have WAR on the main page for the player and bref will have it under 'player value'.

I don't know how to look it up just by position for a team though, that's why I was asking where he found the number. I'd love to easily compare WAR between positions and teams, just don't know where to look.

Since trwi7 references plate appearances, I’m guessing he’s referring to just offense derived WAR.

Maybe, but that's irrelevant to why I'm asking.

Thank you! I never realized you could do that.

The positional tab that you linked to gives a rough overview of players who have played that position, but also includes their numbers playing other positions. For instance, it includes all 134 of Schoop's PAs, even though he only played 70 innings at SS or all 540 of Sogard's PAs, even though he played just as much at 2B/3B.

To get the totals just while playing SS you need to select "SS" from the splits menu which gives a slightly different WAR total, though the Brewers are still last...

We also got Richards in this trade. Meh.

Adames with a 2 run homer which allowed us to win the game in extra innings today.

I would think both teams are pretty happy with what they got. We filled a big need and so did Tampa. It is ok if neither side ends up losing.

+1. If Adames fills the hole at SS, then I am happy to trade from a position of strength to fill that hole.

Now 1B and 3B need figured out.

He's saved 75% of his save opportunities. Boxberger, Suter, Lauer...most relievers coyld do that. Not very impressive.
