Random thoughts that are pointless and too dumb to say anywhere else thread ~ 2022 ~

I haven't worn a watch in at least 10 years. Possibly closer to 15. Because of this, whenever someone asks me what time it is I jokingly look at my wrist and give them an answer. This has become so engrained in my brain that today someone asked me what time it was and I instinctively looked at my wrist in a non-intentionally ironic way expecting to be able to give them an answer and I was disappointed and confused when I couldn't.

I really love salt water taffy and there is a super market in Arizona (Sprouts Farmer Market) that sells the best ones but lately instead of a large assortment of the ones I like I have to choose from they only have a presorted one.  I probably shouldn't have bought that but my sweet tooth took over.  I also completely forgot I have this issue with cinnamon in candies where it gives me severe headaches.  The one piece I choose to eat today had cinnamon in it and now I have a really bad headache.

I'm guilty of this too.  First time I genuinely looked at wrist, it broke my brain practically.

We have lived in the same house since 2005.  In the first 15 years, people moved in and out of the neighborhood (as you'd expect).  Since August 2020, no fewer than three houses either on our block or within a block of us have been either completely demolished or stripped to the studs to be built anew.  A fourth demo/rebuild proposal is being discussed by the city tonight.  That one is two doors down from us.

It's not good or bad; it's just strange.  Also noisy at times.

How old is the neighboorhood?

According to my 18 month old son, this is a duck.

I see it now.  The bill of the batting helmet and the hitter's nose make the duck's bill.

Now I worry that the duck image will always be in my head.

"What else floats on water?"

"A duck!"

"So, if she weighs as much as a duck... she's made of wood."

"And therefore....?"

"A WITCH!!!!!"

Sorry... I couldn't resist.

I have a 17 month old! She recently learned how to say "baseball". I'm going to ask her what this logo is and report back.

What's the typical age, when referring to the age of your kids, that a parent switches from months to years? Is it about 2-3 years old? I'd imagine if my mother referred to me as her 543-month-old that'd be strange.

I actually hate the "x months old" thing and would jokingly refer to my daughter as "0 years old". But at this age their language skills are developing so fast that there is a huge difference between a couple of months.

Did the MLB logo test, she pointed at the white dot and said "ball".

In case you thought it, I didn't mean that comment as any sort of criticism of you or your post. Your answer is also why I was thinking roughly 2 years old, because that's about the point where babies stop making dramatic changes month-to-month.

I think its 24 months because that would match with the doctor wellness checkups. 1 month, 2, 4, 6,9,12,18, and 24 months.

Sigh...

One of my close friends had hip replacement almost a year ago.  Not sure if it was the same thing, but he was 48 years old then.  He was in a fair amount of pain before that and walking with a cane.  He had the surgery first thing in the morning and was up walking in the afternoon.  He had some "discomfort" when doing certain things, but no real pain.  Feels a lot better now - only a little discomfort when doing certain specific things, but can jog with no pain and doesn't need a cane.

You'll be very glad you had it done.

I never once in my life noticed such things until I started living with my wife and she scolded me for putting it the "wrong:" way. Now I can never not notice which was it is whenever I use a bathroom.

Just over a week since I had it done.  I can get up from a chair without having excruciating pain!!!!  PT isn't too bad, yet.  Only 53 years old, so not quite as young as your friend.

So far... so good ?

It's the time of year when I advertise to hire (college) student employees for my library.  One applicant listed Gaming Experience first on his resume.  One bullet point for games with which he has significant experience and a second bullet point for Fortnite stats.

I'm not going to ditch the resume or anything.  I'm just surprised he listed the gaming experience first.  Makes me wonder what else he's applying for.

Tell him you used to be a gamer when you were young then challenge him to a game of checkers.

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

I always thought hawing was more of a backgammon or cribbage player than a checkers person.

I'm really not much into any games.  I think I needed to either be born a bit later or be XY instead of XX to really get into video games.  Too many childhood memories of being stuck in a smoke filled basement while my dad's family smoked and drank and played cards and kept smoking...honestly kind of put me off card games.
