Does anyone think fondly of the 90s "MB" logo?

Posted

I'm just curious, as something of an outsider. I remember when I saw they replaced the iconic glove with the MB, saying to myself "what in the holy hell of mediocrity is this?"

The wheat M was fine but nothing special, IMO. Nothing compares to the glove logo.

Even the colors on the MB logo are yikes.

I'm curious if anyone - probably younger than me - looks back fondly on this logo.

It reminds me of trading Greg Vaughn, and Marc Newfield of Dreams….

and Matt Meiskie

and not retaining Cirillo and Loretta

And the promise of Jeff D’amico

so, fondly is a hard pass for me haha!

I don’t know if fondly is the word I would use, but I liked those uniforms. It’s the unis of the 2000s and 2010s I didn’t like and I have no idea why they kept those plain Jane unis for so long.

No, sometimes changes are made to bring in a new era but this logo symbolizes years of losing. I am sure I attended the most games of my life during this time but a lot of bad baseball and bad ownership/ management.

My first wallet was one with that logo and the Tasmanian Devil on it for some reason that I won on a claw machine at Walmart when I was 7 years old.  So needless to say, it is the greatest logo of all time.

That logo was during my teenage years, when the brewers were my summer. Those teams while not that good were fun to watch. I did like it when they brought the retros out. Is the logo very good, no. But when i see it, nostalgia gets to me.

Fondly isn't the right word, but since the mid-90's were when I really, really got into Brewers baseball so many of my memories and favorite players involve this "Motre Bame" logo.

Still have a hat from this era that I bust out every once in awhile. Last time I wore it to a game I got a comment from a random fan about how ugly it was haha.

Edited to add: I actually do like this logo and the uniforms more than the barley "M" navy uniforms that came with the first Miller Park season. Those were as bland as it gets to me.

I did not care for the Motre Bame logo one bit, but was more into the standalone M logo from that late 90’s era. At least I thought it looked fine on the hats. It may have been a case of the MB logo being so bad that the standalone M played up a grade.

Yankee wannabe logo, imo.

At least have of the league uses or has used a logo with interlocking letters. Plenty of teams in other sports do it too. I don't get any sort of Yankees vibe from the MB logo.

When the 90's logo came out, I bought the hat.  The logo was meh, but it seemed to me to be a good thing to move on from the 82 team logo, as the team was really focused on living in the past.

At the time I appreciated the use of green in the logo, and was hoping it would lead to the three state teams all featuring green in some fashion.

That hat is long gone from my closet.  It was fun to get something new, but glad that's over.

I think it was awful. The use of green bats and whatever the color (I guess gold?) of the lettered just looks awful to me.

then again, I love Barrelman.

There have been two movies about players getting their 3,000th hit, as far as I know.

One of them was based on the premise that the Brewers teams wearing that logo were so bad that they would allow a complete side show of a player to play for them in order to increase attendance while he chased his 3,000th hit.

I'm 43 years old, that logo represents the worst period of my fandom. They even made a movie about it.

Stranger, you have mentioned the unmentionable of which we do not want to remember. Let's all forget this ever happened, again.  ?

This was an early Todd Radom design and is in every way a product of its time. It suffers from two problems: one, it replaced an iconic logo tied to both the rebirth of Milwaukee baseball and its brief glory years, and two, the teams that used this logo were very, very bad.

Given the chance to stand alone, it’s better than people think. This doesn’t change the fact that Radom has given us better designs since.

Not a lot of excellence from this era.

Yankees were one of the first… based off a Tiffany’s design on a medal given to NY police officer in the 1870s.

No. I was a kid during this whole era and none of it brings nostalgia. I mostly remember the horrendous pitching. The offense wasn't that bad IIRC

If you think that movie is insulting to the franchise, let me introduce you to some Minnesota Twins movies from the dark days...

Interesting. I didn't know about this guy and he's really prolific in the sports world. Many really nice designs to be found here:

I tend to think of the dark days coming afterwards just a bit. I got back into the Brewers with those players and a number of those years the offense was really quite good. But opening day starter Rafael Roque really puts the pitching staff into perspective. That late 90's vibe on the ESPN message boards did ultimately give rise to Brewerfan so it wasn't all bad.

When they made the switch to these from the ball/glove I was happy. The pinstripes and color scheme were tired. I didn't like the alternate jersey with the interlocking MB on the front, nor the fact that the first and last letter of both Brewers and Milwaukee was larger than the others. However, when these were tweaked in 1997 for the stand alone M on the hat, those were my favorite (albeit short lived '97-'00) uniforms the Brewers have had.

i won't go that far. I think what they have now is their best uni-set in team history. That being said, I did like the green accent that they had. It was a clear look, but screamed 90's.
