Woodruff’s outing last night was very encouraging, but if Lauer and Hauser continue to struggle the rotation is going to remain a question mark.

Without peralta and these two being ugh.    That’s a lot of pressure on Ashby woodruff and burnes to win as much as they can

Not to mention making it even more important to score runs

Houser and Lauer are your typical #4 or #5 starters.  I guess everyone was fooled by their early success.  Both even with their struggles recently are perfectly fine as the 4/5 starter.

This team just can't hit LHP. If they make the playoffs, it would behove any opposing team to throw all their LHP at them for a quick elimination.

Gameday: appears an ump got hurt.

Home plate ump took a foul ball off the mask and had to leave the game. The delay was for another ump to get gear on.

Hopefully rowdy keeps progressing like this.  I think he can be a .260/.340/.500 guy with 30-35 homers.  I wouldn’t give him so many days off, especially for guys like hiura anymore.

The Brewers need better than “typical” starting pitching.

Lauer and Houser have both been terrible (not typical) this month and, if that continues, just having Burnes and Woodruff as reliable starters is going to put a strain on the rest of the staff. Maybe Ashby and Alexander can fill some of that hole, but neither has enough of a track record to know what to expect from them over the long haul.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

However, both Lauer and Houser do have enough of a track record to lead me to believe they are both better than they have been the last month.

Exactly. Even a start by Lauer today is enough to keep us competitive and in the game. What we need to avoid from those guys is starts like Houser's on Friday where it's 5-0 in the second inning.

I love when this team shows what it is capable of against playoff-caliber opponents.

I am not sure what you are expecting from 4/5 starters it seems to be an unrealistic expectation.  Your 4/5 starters are normally going to be 4-5 ERA pitchers which means they are going to have more blowup games.

Houser and Lauer are probably the best 4/5 starters in the whole league.  You are not going to get Burnes or Woodruff type of results from them.  Maybe once or twice a month but that is about it.  These starts will even out over the course of a season.

Houser will be fine and Lauer will be fine.  No the Brewers don’t need them to be better than your “typical” starting pitcher.

Which is why I say “if that continues”.

If the number 3 spot is vacant, the 4 and 5 starters have to pull their weight.

And Woodruff has to build on last night’s start and show that his problems from the first part of the season are behind him.

Four Base Jace. Nice to pick up at least one insurance run.

Woot! Where'd this power line-up come from?  I don't care!
