I'd like Adrian "Don't let Reynolds or Hayes Beat You" Houser, based on the numbers above!

Yeah, our pitchers are going to have to have that mindset. Reynolds is the one guy in that lineup who can kill you, and he's on a tear right now.

Also, if we happen to lose a game this weekend, can we please not go back to the "this team is bad" takes. Brewers are not going to go undefeated against the Pirates for the entire season....

If people want to respond to a loss to the Pirates with "this team is bad", it would probably be best to just let them wail instead of expending energy trying to convince them they're wrong. But that's just me.

I do see this next set of 10 games against the Pirates and Cubs as an opportunity for the Brewers to rack up some wins and put themselves into a better position to challenge for one of the first round playoff byes, which has been my goal for the team from the beginning of the season. I think anything less than 7-3 (or at least 6-4) in these 10 games, while not disastrous, would be somewhat disappointing. It was stretches like this that the Brewers used last year to build up their division lead, and early this season to get off to a good start.

Tonight's game will be interesting because we have to expect that Boxberger, Williams, and Hader will be held out unless one of them would be used in a 9th inning save situation. It's going to be up to Houser, the offense, and some of the other relievers to bring this one home.

The Pirates could be in a tight spot too as they used 5 pitchers to nail down a 9-8 win yesterday, and Bednar has been unavailable due to a back issue. They haven't put him on the IL so maybe he will be ready to go tonight. Regardless, some early runs that would force the Bucs to go to the bullpen would really look good.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

It actually is ok to let people say what they want to say.   So what if you don’t agree

thats what makes a message board actually fun

Does that only apply to those that post negative stuff?

Of course not. But I don’t see anyone making preemptive strikes telling anyone not to get too excited if the Brewers win.

People can say whatever the heck they want. But that also doesn't mean that other people don't have the right to push back against what someone else says if they disagree with it and especially if they have the facts to back it up. The goal of any public forum, besides open discussion, should be to arrive at deeper understanding of reality. Constant negative crap like, "this team sucks", "x reliever is a garbage can", etc. does absolutely nothing to aid that process.

Counsell leaving yelich in the lead off.   Maybe he’s found a useful comfortable spot

It would be foolish to move him out. He is in the spot where walks and scratch hits can do the most good.

At this point, with his current batting average and OBP, I'd be fine with about 15 to 20 home runs out of the lead off spot

It’s a game.     That’s all it is.    And above is just your opinion.   Doesn’t mean it’s right

my advice whenever these arguments pop up is you are never as smart as you think you are and the other person isn’t as dumb as you think they are.   Especially In baseball which isn’t rocket science

and this isn’t talking specifically to you but people need to get over themselves sometimes because EVERYONE is wrong and says stupid things sometime     EVERYONE

I will though.     ?

I would have to concur on the lead-off idea. Outside of the MVP years his statline has always lined up well with that spot, and in his 20 games leading off this year he has a .321/.402/.420 line very similar to his Marlins days and one I could definitely live with since he is such a good baserunner.

You don't see that because there is no such thing as a fan who doesn't get excited after a win. And if there is outside of my knowledge, then I would question what they're doing being a fan in the first place. But every discussion should at least try to remain grounded in reality. The "Brewers are bad" because they lost one game to the Pirates is not anywhere close to reality. And the game threads during/after losses lately have had a propensity to get quite toxic, which is why I made my above comment.

If he can do this and shave a few points off his K%, so that he has a chance at productive outs, that would be pretty dang nice.

If you would have added bunt and productive outs together in the same post you would have blown up this message board or every baseball message board ever at the very least and maybe even the whole universe would have imploded

Some people get more excited after each win than others, and some people get more down after losses than others. From my experience that is a fact of life.

There can be differences of opinion about what “grounded in reality” means, both in sports and other things that are not appropriate for discussion on this board.

If someone declares after a game that a certain player is “superhuman”, that doesn’t seem to be grounded in reality. But, hyperbolic reactions either way are part of being a “fanatic”.

I predicted this would be a great move! (After it happened. ? )

Because this is the MLB "free game of the day," I actually get to see what these guys look like for a change. That's only a slight exaggeration, but I usually see only highlights.

I'm also reaffirming just how behind TV time the MLB audio stream is. It's more than a minute.
