Trevor Bauer Reinstated; Eligible Immediately

I am not here to defend Bauer at all, but it needs to be pointed out that he had a ton of "baggage" BEFORE this issue with "rough sex" was revealed. He wore out his welcome in both Arizona and Cleveland before reaching free agency with the Reds to sign with the Dodgers.

With the suspension now concluded yes he has the chance to play again.  That said, some club (if not the LA Dodgers) has to give him the chance.  The Dodgers could very easily tell Bauer to stay home and send him his paychecks for the remaining season of the contract.

Whichever direction this goes it will be interesting to watch so grab some snacks and your favorite beverage, sit back and enjoy this circus....

This was one of the weirdest stories I can recall.

I formed an opinion very early because I didn't have a high opinion of Bauer and it was so shocking.
Then a lot more stuff came out and I pretty much stuck behind that opinion.

Then the video of her came out after the encounter she said was violent and she's just laying in the bed, she tapes him and giggles and...now I don't know what to think.

I'll say this...we should probably not judge as quickly as we do...though it's very hard given this particular subject.
And I would not sign him even if he was going to take a minimum salary to come here.

I also anticipate a lawsuit by him to get payment for his lost pay that I think he may have a chance to win.

An independent arbitrator "reduced" his suspension but still upheld a 194 game suspension. Bauer had his chance to defend himself to a neutral party and that party still said "yeah, you violated your contractual obligations and deserve over a year of suspension for it". He's going to have a hell of a time overcoming that and getting back pay from the Dodgers.

This thread is a lot like the thread you locked yesterday.  I prefer you to lock this thread Brock just like Brewcrew82 said yesterday.  That is how it works, right.  I don't like this subject and you need 100% agreement to keep a thread open.  Everybody has expressed their opinion time to move on.

This thread was created to report on a baseball news event. And it has largely stayed on track about baseball.

The thread you created was, "SHOULD the Brewers sign Trevor Bauer?". That's a normative/subjective question that unsurprisingly went off the rails given the subject matter. You're comparing apples to oranges here.

Maybe @Brock Beauchamphas a different opinion, but at least that's the way I see it.

The reason that thread was locked was because it became about the posters involved and not the subject at hand and people were busy digging trenches against one another. At that point, I can't recall ever seeing a thread do that and end up in a decent place.

Then lock the posters.  If you read this thread the same posters that ruined the previous Trevor Bauer thread have the strongest opinions on this thread.  Obviously they haven't learned and are continuing to put emotions into baseball only threads.  Why do a few bad eggs always ruin things for everyone.

I think the point is moot. He hasn't pitched in 1.5 seasons, and I don't think Milwaukee is on his top list of destinations. I'll leave his baggage out of the equation and just say I don't think it makes sense for either party.

The Dodgers will definitely release him before January 6th (the day he has to be put back on the 40 man roster). I don't see any other team bringing him in. At least not this year, and probably not ever. The guy is toxic and it goes beyond the specific subject of his suspension.

From a straight baseball perspective, Bauer is probably one of my favorite players. To get an idea of how he approaches pitching read "The Arm". I doubt there is any player who is more dedicated to learning about and perfecting his craft than he is. Outside of the reasons for his suspension, I can understand why some teams would sour on him as he's not a guy who's going to just blindly follow orders. He wants solid evidence to back up whatever coaches are telling him and if it can't be provided he'll just ignore what he's being told. I think we all know people like that in our own life and sometimes it's a good thing and sometimes it's not. He doesn't seem like a personable guy though. If he was, he probably wouldn't have such a poor reputation.

I think this is why the Brewers actually match up really well with Bauer.  What the Brewers have been doing with their pitching clinic in AZ is basically right up Bauer's line of thinking.  I wouldn't be surprised if the Brewers picked him up on a one year deal.

Don’t kid yourself, it’s 2022 not 2002. Most if not all teams have a pitching lab. When free agent pitchers cost 30 million dollars a year, what’s a pitching lab cost by comparison to aid a club in developing their own.

Milwaukee won't be on the top of his list, I think he will have a few teams check in with him.

Imagine that rotation though...

He is on record as saying he loves Milwaukee in the summertime so you never know.  I could see mutual interest on a one year deal.  A rotation where Freddy Peralta is your #4 starter would really be something.

Just a reminder that the Dodgers have until Friday to decide whether to retain Bauer or release him.  The Dodgers will be on the hook for about $22 million no matter what they decide.  I didn't realize this but if the Dodgers release him, Bauer can only sign with another team for the league minimum.

I believe he has to clear waivers, too, but no team is going to claim him for $22 million...

The sports world no longer cares if players have character and are morally set, they just want the money, the exposure, and I believe that people want and like villians!

I used to root against guys like Bonds, Alomar, Ray Lewis, and all the rest of the pieces of crap out there, and still do.

I'm not against bringing Bauer on board though.  If he truly wants another shot at a career, he'll mind his business and not screw it up again, if he is too far gone, then he'll mess up and he'll be cut.

We've had our share of guys who have knocked women around, DUI, etc.  To take the moral high ground now is just hypocritical.

If he were to become a Brewer, I'd root like hell for him, if he signs elsewhere (and there is a 100% chance he will) I will root like hell against him.

That is where I sit for now.

I don't think even Steve Cohen would claim him for $22 million. If he's really that interested in Bauer, he can just wait for Bauer to clear waivers and then sign him for the league-minimum.

I would bet big time that there will be a lot more teams than just the Mets that are willing to sign him for the league minimum.

Agreed.  I think he'll have a number of teams after him.  He's a hard dude to figure out but you'd think he'd want to go to a place that's under the radar where the media won't be hounding him everyday...a place like Milwaukee if the Brewers would even be interested.

I’d sign him and also hang a picture of him hoisting the 2023 World Series Trophy on my wall too.

I think we have had enough bums to play for us at this point another one won’t hurt.

Today is the deadline for the Dodgers to make a decision with Bauer.

I think they release him outright just for the PR, at the same time they have to pay him anyway so wouldn't be surprised if they kept him on the roster in hopes of extracting some value (either on the field or via trade) for their 22 million.

Maybe he can stay with the king of JUCO and just.. go away
