starting with Wiemer over Frelick is super dumb

Frelick's had far less time to iron out things, and isn't as secure in the outfield. plus Wiemer has looked good this Spring. Last night's double was especially intriguing as he barreled up a ball that had given him real trouble last season

Not saying I'd agree with it 100% but I can see some logic, plus I think either of them are quality additions and its exciting to see what they can do

That same sentiment goes for Turang, I'm super excited to see the young guys in Milwaukee but starting him on Opening Day seems extremely short sighted, we are burning a year of his prime for 2 weeks now. And it's not like he even qualifies for the draft pick incentive. Dumb

I assume they are concerned about having a lineup that is too lefty-heavy. Voit and Wiemer both provide RHH power.

I understand why, but 2 weeks of Wiemer/Turang over Toro or whoever isn't likely to make a material difference over the course of the season and now we are burning a year of control. It's short sighted and dumb

These players still have 3 options. Just because they make the team now doesn't mean they will be on the roster the entire season. Wiemer especially because Tyrone will be back eventually and Wiemer will be the guy to go down in that situation.

Who knows if they will be on the 26-man roster all season, though? My guess is likely no. Both will be optioned at some point, and my guess is neither will burn a year of service time unless they are tearing the cover off the ball and helping the team win.

It is certainly possible but if Turang & Wiemer play well they've boxed themselves into a pickle. Or if there are injuries that occur. Especially with Turang we have the coverage right now to survive 2 weeks without him

Wiemer isn't even a sure thing yet. With Voit back, it seems like it could be down to Wiemer or Owen Miller for the last spot. Miller's ability to play in the OF may actually win him the spot.

That's fair, after I saw Frelick went down I assumed Wiemer had made it and I hope that's not the case. I understand why everyone is excited to see the young guys, I really do. I just hate the idea of burning a full year of their primes for 2 weeks now

Interesting that Turang made the team... So are we going with Turang at 2B, Urias at 3B and Anderson in RF?

Think Anderson will move between 3B/RF and Urias will move between 2B/3B depending on match ups, etc.

Voit has pretty heavy reverse splits though, which is why I'm surprised they went with him in the end. 105 wRC+ over the last two years, 1B/DH only. Winker, Contreras and Yelich will be getting a bunch of DH time, and obviously there's Tellez. Not a fan of that move tbh. I hope to be proven wrong and that Voit will be closer to 2019-2020, but I really doubt it.

All logistics and future implications aside, I am sooooooo happy for Brice Turang. He has been one of my day-in and day-out favorite Brewers minor leaguers for two years running. He has put in all the work to his craft. The offensive progressions really started jumping last season in a big way. This should be a very exciting day for Brewers fans. This is an easy baseball player to enjoy - everything he does on the baseball diamond is smooth and effortless. Let's just hope the improvements at the plate stay true and he keeps building.

My guess is Anderson will be starting in RF to open the season, with Urias at 3B. The video the Brewers posted had Counsell kind of alluding to Turang playing on opening day, which points to him at 2B and Urias at 3B. If they keep Miller, he fills the super-sub role.

They need a backup in CF defensively, and Miller has been seeing a lot of time out there in the last few weeks. He is also already on the 40-man, while Wiemer would need to be added. Given Voit's addition today, those 40-man spots are tough to come by right now.

I am inclined to agree, but getting Wiemer to the 40 man wouldn't be that difficult. Hiura was DFA'd to open Voit's spot and Justin Wilson could be put on the 60-day to open a spot for Wiemer.

Right this has to be what is happening because if Anderson is at 3B and Urias at 2B, who's playing RF if Wiemer is sent down?

Right. If they decide to keep Wiemer on the MLB club, it wouldn't be to sit the bench. He'd be the RF, with Anderson going to 3B, Urias to 2B and Turang to the super-sub role. If Turang is starting on opening day, I think it means Wiemer is in Nashville.

I will say if it's just Turang and not Wiemer that will be alot easier to digest. While I still wouldn't agree with it losing a year of Turang is likely must less of an issue than a year of Wiemer

Just like his video of being called up, Turang will have to earn staying in the big leagues. It will be very difficult to  stay up all year. The last major Brewers rookie to make the opening day roster was Khris Davis who struggled quite a bit. He was optioned and was a 1.000 OPS player after he was called up again.

Plus if they do get to the point where they're consistently tearing the cover off the ball and become unoptionable, then you start talking early extension and buying out FA years, a la the Atlanta Braves. In which case the service time debate becomes moot.

Gus Varland made the team too. I wonder who is out. Houser to IL is too temporary of a solution to keeping Varland all season.
