Wiemer being called up

I want to be excited, I am very excited to see him play, just hoping they don't burn a full year of control for the 12 games now

This is good. Let the best players play. Then, if they produce, give them financial security and buy out 1-2 FA years.

Or they keep that extra year of control, then extend him and buy out 2 years of FA

I think Wiemer would be a good extension candidate if the team deems him worthy since his signing bonus was only a few hundred thousand.

Service time stuff aside, I'm very excited to see Wiemer in the bigs. His ceiling is massive, a potential 30/30 guy with elite defense in RF. I do think he'll need a bit of an adjustment period but hopefully by the end of the year is what we hope.

Seriously, though, it's kinda sad that Frelick is going to be the last one to be called up of that group, when he's arguably earned it more than any of them...

With Steele, the lefty, going for the Cubs tomorrow, does Wiemer go into the starting lineup immediately?

Yelich LF

Voit 1B

Adames SS

Contreras C

Brosseau DH

Anderson 3B

Mitchell CF

Wiemer RF

Turang 2B

I'm assuming they aren't calling him up not to play him

I'm glad to see this. I'm so tired of service time manipulation.

If they are good, play them. If they produce, pay them. If they're so damn good you can't pay them, then trade them.

I would hope they don't end up playing today but yes Weimer should be able he every day RF, with the occasional day in CF for Mitchell.

I agree that service time manipulation sucks, but it's the system we have and I'd rather the Brewers take advantage of the rules in place rather ignore them. Hopefully in the next CBA the MLBPA fights harder to get rid of Service time stuff but until they do the Brewers willingly giving up a full year of control on good players is dumb

This isn't service time manipulation. He wasn't going to be playing much if he made the opening day roster. And if they are really concerned about service time he wouldn't be getting the call right now anyway.

Right, this is the opposite of service time manipulation, I'm hoping they find time to send him back down at some point for another 12 days to gain that extra year of control.

It'd be pretty illogical to call him up and not play him against a lefty.

Why would they not play?

Pretty sure he means the game itself shouldn't happen today due to the weather

Right, I don’t see any issue with the weather. The rain is moving out of the area

Wiemer makes a lot more sense than Frelick at this point in the season. Highly debatable that Frelick has earned it more than Wiemer. Glad that Counsell and Arnold sure don’t believe that.

1. Right handed hitter

2. More power

3. Better outfielder

    a. Faster runner

     b. Stronger arm

     c. Center and right outfielder vs, left and center.

4. More seniority/maturity/experience.

5. Better base runner

Generally, "earning it" entails statistical production...

Frelick in 158 MILB games: .332/.407/.479/.886

Mitchell in 132 MILB games: .273/.382/.419/.801

Wiemer in 236 MILB games: .274/.367/.506/.873

Also, I don't know where you're getting it from that Wiemer is a faster runner. They both grade out as 60/70 runners.
