Any thoughts on how we get everyone signed?

1) Wilken= 3.9 mill save=121k

I doubt Wilken takes much of a discount but maybe a little.

1comp) Knoth= 2.1 mill save=493k

This is paying him 2nd round money, as a lower ranked guy 2 mill would seem a solid payday.

2)Boeve= 1.1 mill save=446k

Boeve takes less as a smaller school college player who went above rankings.

3)Bitoniti= 1.5 mill  over=708k

My guess is the 2 lowers drafted HS players will want around 1.5 mill to forgo college.  ???

4)Woodward=100k save=457k

Pretty sure he had Tommy John and will be out most of next year. We should be able to sign him well below.

5) Birchard= 392k  at slot

As a 19 year old with options I doubt we can go below slot.

6)Pratt= 1.5 over=1.19k

Same as Bitonini

7-10 Kuehner, Yoho, Manfred, Austin

Sign 400k (100k each) save=382k

That comes out pretty muchly even if my math is correct. It would be nice to have a little extra to sign Letson and some of the other HS picks after 10.

I really doubt Wilken will take $3.9M to sign

I think you are reading too much into Knoth's MLB.com ranking. Like Misiorowski last year, he was on the rise before the draft and MLB.com never caught up (They had Misiorowski 78th last year. Fangraphs, for instance had both in their respective classes' top 30).

Agree, closer to $3M, so near $1M saved.

I think Pratt gets at least $2M.

Brewers have done with some pretty low bonuses since the draft changes in 12'. Here is a look at the lowest they have given out. There are a couple in this draft I could see signing for under 100k to create extra savings.  Do think it is pretty safe to assume Woodward and 7-10 picks come in to average about 100k each based on signings in the past. Really though, Wilken and Bovee are the two that you need to be able to sign under slot to really give you money to play with. I never expect a HS player to go under slot (some do) because they have the most leverage, but if they get Knott to, that'd be great

JT Hintzen 10k

D. Fry 10k

D. Carroll 10k

B. Fox 10k

A. Bettinger 10k

M. Meyer 10k

G. McCall 10k

J. Salas 15k

T. York 25k

B. Allemand 40k

B. Jordan 47,5k

D. MeMuth 50k

W. Clarke 75k

Year with most savings was 2014 with 4 players combined for 85k

Couldn't find the bonuses for 12' and 13'

Taking a crack at the impossible:

  • Wilken - $3.2m
  • Knoth - $2.2m
  • Boeve - $1.2m
  • Bitonti - $1.8m
  • Woodward - $100k
  • Birchard - $350k
  • Pratt - $1,760,600
  • Kuehner - $85k
  • Yoho - $85k
  • Manfredi - $85k
  • Austin - $85k
  • Total = Bonus Pool = $10,950,600

So they could still give Letson almost 675K in this hypothetical to stay under the 5%?

Letson would be the perfect cherry on top to this draft.

My guess:

  • Wilken - $2.7m
  • Knoth - $2.8m
  • Boeve - $800K
  • Bitonti - $1.7m
  • Woodward - $30k
  • Birchard - $400k
  • Pratt - $3.0m
  • Kuehner - $15k
  • Yoho - $25k
  • Manfredi - $15k
  • Austin - $10k

My rationale (assuming that they are going to sign all 11 like usual): Unless something did change on Pratt's end, the Brewers were able to successfully float him to the sixth round. It would have taken a big bonus promise to do so. That means first-round money. I also think the college guys, especially once you got past the second tier, probably got squeezed a bit this year. It wouldn't shock me if Wilken ends up with the third highest bonus and Boeve gets less than you expect. Also, I think the math works, but I did it quickly so if not, it is at least close.

If Knoth goes under it’s because it was all worked out ahead of time.   As in, he was prepared to go later and the Brewers offered to take him earlier in exchange for lower $ but more than he would have gotten later.

Will there be a signing thread this year?  I hope so.

I’m assuming the post draft thread directly above this thread is for that purpose. Hopefully we see some signings trickling through soon. Would be a nice news drop with the off day.

Should it be concerning that we haven't signed any picks? I am sure we are just playing hardball trying to get every cent to sign Pratt and some of those 11-20 round picks. I know usually like 5 or 6 guys can sign at once. Maybe I'm just a bit antsy.

They're notoriously slower then other teams historically anecdotally. I don't have data to back it up but they usually announce them in waves, and almost always during homestands.

Was thinking the same thing. It’s pretty crazy we haven’t signed one guy yet. I want to see some of these players on the field before it’s too late!

I am guessing there is an order the deals have to be signed for safety’s sake. If a significantly under slot pick pulls out after the rest have signed, it could cost you a pick. Unless the MLB has a contingency for that.

Man, if they pull this off, and even get another one of the 11-20’s…. Yeesh.

This draft seems a lot like our International signing strategy. Spread the money over as many high level lottery tickets as possible. Three or four guys at $1.5 mil rather than one at $5-6 mil.

I think some of the bigger names will likely sign on Friday when they are back at home. They like to have the biggest bonus players sign at American Family Field, meet with media and take some BP with the team (if they're hitters obviously). And then Wilken will definitely do an interview with whoever the commentary team is on Friday, as well.
