A nice clean win last night... until Chafin stepped on the mound. It tainted the win a little to see Williams get up in that win.

Just more evidence the FO needs to DFA Chaffin to get rid of the bullpen’s only weak-link. Perfect game to be his last pitched game for this team.

But he shaved his mustache!  Surely he will regain form now!

Avila has been a great opener/reliever this season, but has massively outperformed expected numbers with an xERA of 3.85 compared to his actual 1.17 ERA

He's a fastball/change/curve guy, with really effective off speed offerings so far this year but also very hittable behind the fastball (either four seamer or sinker)

I’m debating what is more satisfying; that the brewers have finally hit a hot streak (and against good opponents) or that during it the cubs are falling further behind during likely their best streak of this poor attempt at a rebuild.

Their rebuild is working fine. They're right there with us as a top 5 farm.

It will be interesting what they do with bellinger next year.

Don't write off the Cubs, I think they're just getting started. They have a nice, deep farm system.

Just brought up Wicks, though tactfully made sure he isn't in line to face the Brewers next week. Could be a real sink or swim move, starters have mostly taken some adjustment period this year when getting promoted

The option of Tellez or Canha is a nice one, such contrasting profiles.

Hopefully that lineup can grind this padres staff down, didn't realise the San Diego offense hasn't quite been as underperforming as I thought with so many stolen bases, home runs and huge RBI totals compared to the Brewers

One of these games they'll produce an offensive outburst

Also intriguing how well Ben Gamel has hit against Peralta, he's been a Brewer killer since leaving them

I’m going to the games tonight and tomorrow so that could trigger the end of the offensive surge.

I was a little surprised to see Canha over Tellez against the RHP after his HR and 4 RBI last night.  But it’s hard to question using Canha. Counsell might also be anticipating a LHP coming in as the Padres second pitcher and doesn’t want to get hung up on playing matchups based on just the starter. Just play the overall better hitter.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Yeah, and I don’t think Wicks is particularly good. But there’s a solid chance he’s a lot better than Drew Smyly and that’s what the Cubs need right now.

A brief digression before the first pitch, for those who are limited to MLB.TV audio;

That lady who pitches the potted plants keeps saying their plants are "trialed and tested." This is a linguistic abomination! It's "tried" not "trialed."
 Bughghghgh.

We now return you to the regularly scheduled program. 🤐

He walks with a QO; somebody will give him 5/125. With Crow-Armstrong knocking on the door, the Cubs can better use that kind of money to get more pitching.

They need a first baseman, too. They're going to make a run at resigning him. They've got the cash.

I agree, they aren't just going to let him walk without a fight.  I wish we had taken the chance on him to be honest, but we got our man in Luke Voit!!!

Hope the Cubs re-sign him to a monster deal and he stops overperforming his xwOBA by 50+ points next year.
