I wouldn't hate getting swept by the Marlins. Let the Marlins in and knock the Cubs out of the playoffs and then win the division at home against the Craps...I mean Cards. Go ahead and thumbs down me all you want.

We should be rooting for this last WC race to go down to the last game - in that scenario, whoever gets in will lean heavily on their aces just to get in, and we'll be facing the back end of the rotation for at least game one.

Fine with me. Lowers the ticket prices when Cubs fans dump the Wild Card tickets they bought.

That’s probably going to happen anyway, or at least the final WC won’t be settled more than two days before season’s end. Given the new format of the MLB postseason, it’s more likely than not that wild card position goes down to the wire.

I would rather play the Marlins than the D Backs anyway.  We are 2-4 against the D Backs this season

and 3-1 so far against the Marlins this season. But obviously we play the Marlins a 3 games series starting tonight.

Ok - we get foie gras again...

I doubt anyone would do this, but I'd be tempted to counter the opener strategy by pitting my 7-8-9 hitters at the top of the order and just move 1-6 down 3 spots.

Haha, that's creative. I suspect they would just re-counter by extending the opener a 2nd inning or bringing in a second reliever though.

Watching Cubs-Rockies. I was unaware that the cubs lose the tiebreaker to all of the other teams they are locked up with (Marlins, Reds, D-Backs). I like that.

I really, really like the fact that Craig finally accepted that Frelick is not a good option in the 4 spot. Personally I'd love for him to stay hitting leadoff, but I like this lineup, and like it well.

This would be much more easily attainable under the old September roster callup rules. Hard to water down a lineup now, outside of giving Anderson his first start since dinosaurs roamed the earth.

Good to see Contreras catching Burnes again……give them every chance to get comfortable before the playoffs…….if for whatever reason it doesn’t work you can adjust……but at least they are trying.

The Brewers haven’t typically done “personal catchers” during the Craig Counsell era, but perhaps they are making an exception for Corbin Burnes as he tries to lock in with midseason approaching.

Victor Caratini has caught each of Burnes’ last three starts and seven of Burnes’ last nine after William Contreras caught three of the first four. The Brewers’ primary catcher, Contreras, has received high praise for his development as a receiver -- and he deserves it -- but for whatever reason, the Burnes-Caratini battery has fared better.

Here are Burnes’ numbers this season by catcher, going into Tuesday’s scheduled start at Minnesota:

  • Caratini (8 starts): 2.08 ERA, .476 OPS, 6.5 innings per start, 3.6 strikeouts per walk
  • Contreras (5 starts): 5.96 ERA, .816 OPS, 5.1 innings per start, 1.6 strikeouts per walk

Burnes has surrendered more total bases (47) with Contreras as his catcher than he has with Caratini (43) -- in almost exactly half the innings.

Contreras caught Burnes last start……5 great innings and then an unfortunate 6th.

I’ll be interested to see how it goes tonight.

So does anyone know what Tyrone Taylor is dealing with? He was pulled from the lineup late yesterday and out today??

No,idea……I’m surprised nobody asked him after yesterday’s game.

I kinda love Frelick leading off. Glad Yelich is ok but hitting him second behind Frelick and Contreras 3 would be my ideal lineup.

I think so too...but CC loves him some LRLRL action at the top of the order. I'd be okay going Frelick-Contreras-Yelich-Adames-Santana-Canha... or flip-flopping Canha and Adames.

What happened there when the Marlin caught. That pop-up and stepped down into the dugout.  Didn't something similar happen with Santana a few games ago?
