I'm kind of fascinated by this year's Wild Card races (both of them). It's like a game of hot potato where all teams are actively trying to avoid wins.

Pressure and expectations really mess with baseball players, plus these 80-something win teams would have historically been eliminated by now. The Padres and Mariners are incredibly un-clutch this year. Seattle's young pitching seems to have run out of gas. The Rangers had those epic bullpen meltdowns when their bats went cold, they got lucky they had a big cushion and slumped early enough to have time to get over it. The Blue Jays had the injury bug and clubhouse issues. The Astros are a classic case of championship hangover.

The NL has all these young, flawed teams overachieving with little expectations...until the pressure ramped up in September and suddenly none of them can keep it together.

Will be heading to the game, looks like it will be a decent crowd for a Tuesday night.

Wish I could meet you there! But I'm approximately 1024 miles away. 🙁   Some day!

Would love to see Garrett Mitchell, Tyler Black, and Robert Gasser tonight. Sadly, I suspect we'll only get Garrett Mitchell.

Also, I just realized that Contreras has surpassed Yelich for highest OBP on the team (16th in all of baseball). Dang. We may be looking at a top 10 MVP finish. Thank you so much Braves and A's.

Mitchell at least! I think we have missed him (he said without a crumb of actual evidence.)

On the one hand, our outfielders are 10th in WAR and the Brewers are currently 5th in MLB for wins as a team, so I'd say he hasn't really been missed all that much.

On the other hand, Mitchell has played in 44 career games with the Brewers going 30-14 in those games.

Obviously a small sample, but Mitchell has definitely had some special sauce so far in his career with his +0.97 WPA ranking 6th among Brewers from 2022-23 even though his 130 PA only rank 26th.

My opinion is definitely colored by that game (the one on which he hurt his shoulder?) in which he scored the winning, and only, run with pure hustle.

Wow Cubs up 4-0 now ***?

The Braves won’t be pitching anyone of significance after today.  Brewers will need to take care of their own business and if they lose today, the pressure will start to mount.
