Would you have put the Brewers in the top half of teams?

Would not have guessed it off top of my head.   But after a little thinking it does make sense due to playoff expansion and that for the first big chunk of years only 2-4 teams even made the postseason, so the super long standing teams % gets killed by that

Yes and no.  The super long-standing teams played during an era when there were only 8 teams in each league, not much different than the Brewers playing in a 7-team division in the late 70's, 80's, and early 90's.

The only really disadvantageous period was 1961-1968 when there were 10 teams in each league.  But the super long-standing teams also got to play in 6-team divisions from 1969-1976 and also got to beat up on expansion clubs in the early/late 60's and late 70's.

Among the 16 super long-standing teams, eight have a higher playoff % than the Brewers, 8 have a lower %.

It was a good ride while it lasted.  I wonder if they'll have to play in Miami or AAA Jacksonville?

Here is an article outlining some options for other locations:

https://www.news-press.com/story/sports/mlb/2024/10/18/tampa-bay-rays-stadium-options-tropicana-field-roof-ripped-off-hurricane-milton/75723010007/

If the bleachers are still retractable, I wouldn't be surprised if they go with Hard Rock.  Although, a second team in Miami will be difficult since the primary team doesn't draw the best.

I know the big deal is to have a place with a roof.  Not sure that is going to be feasible.  I wonder if Disney wouldn't pony up a little by installing 20,000 seats (perhaps temporary).  That would be just under 30K.  Disney does this and it would be a nice influx of money for them.

There is a train that goes from Tampa to Orlando.  Perhaps there could be a discount for those who have tickets to the game.

So, I'm guessing ESPN's Wide World of Sports.

OMG could you imagine playing outdoor baseball in Florida all summer long? The Brewers will be there in early May which wouldn't be a whole lot better.

Cardinals have hired Brant Brown as the hitting coach.

They really dropped the ball on that one.

Better than hiring Steve Lyons and dropping the pants, I guess??

RIP Fernando Valenzuela

Below are his first 8 starts of 1981 (last year the Dodgers and Yankees met in the World Series).

Fernandomania was no joke.

Here are some numbers showing just how insane Fernandomania was.

During his seven year peak from 1981-87 Fernando threw 1,788 innings.

Wade Miley has 1,745 IP over a 14 year career. Sonny Gray is at 1,737 IP over his 12 years in the bigs.

The most innings anyone has over the last seven full seasons (plus the sixty game COVID year) is Aaron Nola with 1,432.

No wonder the ESPN 30-for-30 on Fernando was on yesterday.  It's one of my favorites, definitely top 10, maybe top 5, and really illuminates the cultural impact that Fernando had on the perception of the Dodgers in the heavy Hispanic community.

Not just the increase in fans for the games he pitched, but the indirect effect he had on the millions of Hispanic fans who've attended Dodgers games in the last 35 years.

Counting stats be damned, he belongs in the Hall.  You absolutely cannot tell the story of the history of baseball without talking about him.

Looks like the Trop won't be ready for Opening Day, possibly all of next season.

Rays' Tropicana Field unlikely to be ready for MLB Opening Day 2025 after hurricane damage, per report - CBSSports.com

Any reasonably sized highschool field should be enough to accommodate all their fans.

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

In the should have done this a year ago department, Bob Costas is retiring from calling baseball games. I wonder if he planned on doing so all along or if he, or someone else, took an objective look at his work this year and said enough.

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.
