So, what would it take to get Luzardo?  I know every team in contention this summer is going to be reaching out to the Marlins, so the asking price I'm sure is going to be STEEP.  But, what would it take from the Brewers to land him?

Would a package like this get it done:

Quero

Mitchell

Wichrowski

Blalock

Is that too much?  Too little?

I would do that deal. I think it's "fair," but I also think that some other team will be willing to go bigger. Probably the Cubs.

The 2024 version of the Brewers isn’t the version to empty the prospect bin for a #1/2 starter with control (and I’m not a prospect hugger).   2025 or for sure 2026 would be the time to do that if it is needed.    2024 represents another “bite of the apple” year imho.

I would go hard for Luzardo. Hate to lose Mis when we need pitching but yeah Quero and Mis I would probably do it. Can even flip Luzardo in 2 years for prospects again potentially. That 2025 rotation with Woodruff and maybe Ashby/Gasser would be nice.

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

You aren’t getting “quero value” for an injured all year minor league catchers.  So add prospects 3 4 and 5 in a four player Lazardo deal if you wish to supplement the 2024 brewers that way.

We are getting guys like Hudson, Koenig, and Megill off of the trash heap, yet some are willing to empty out the “good” prospects for one guy who has less than three years of control? I cannot see it. We need a constant flow of good and cheap talent coming up regularly. I am all for getting a great SP with control, but losing a Mis, Quero, and maybe more is too much.

Pitcher Jorge Lopez of the Mets said, the Mets are the most poorly run franchise in the majors and he was DFA'd an hour later.

So Jorge Lopez is available now.

Better check your sources, that isn't what he said.

To bolster the point about not having to empty the farm system for a quality starter who is set to become increasingly more expensive on top of it, why do that when there are actually quality veteran starting pitcher options who've won a Cy Young who can be signed via free agency for less than what Luzardo is currently making and give up nothing from the farm?

The longer this Brewer team stays on top of the standings, the more obvious Trevor Bauer as the best on-field solution to bolster this team's starting rotation becomes when factoring in talent, financial cost, and potential prospect capital needed to acquire altogether.

Milwaukee Brewers traded RHP Thyago Vieira and RHP Aneuris Rodriguez to Baltimore Orioles for RHP Garrett Stallings.

Out of these three guys, Severino is really the only one I would be interested in. Manaea has a decent sized player option for 2025 and Quintana has been bad.

This is right on. The Brewers are not going to acquire a big-time name. Instead Brewer fans should be looking for the 2024 version of Jordan Lyles. Also, don't be surprised if the Brewers try Taylor Clarke before going the trade route.

I wanted to sign him in the off-season but another potential option would be Jack Flaherty. The Tigers aren't out of it yet but if they do sell, he would be a decent option.

Passan:

Few teams have as good an understanding of who they are and where they exist in their contention cycle as the Brewers. Two years ago, they got filleted for trading closer Josh Hader while in first place in the NL Central. Well, the main pitching prospect in the deal, Robert Gasser, has been Milwaukee's best pitcher since debuting May 10. And outfielder Esteury Ruiz, who arrived in the deal, was later flipped in a deal for William Contreras, who should start at catcher for the NL All-Star team. Gasser reporting soreness in his elbow after his last start doesn't exactly buttress the idea that the Brewers should go for it, but with a top-end starting pitcher joining Freddy Peralta in a playoff rotation, Milwaukee would cement itself as an even greater threat to Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Atlanta. Garrett Crochet certainly fits and is what they hope DL Hall -- whom they got in a deal for Corbin Burnes, the sort of ace they really could use now -- can be: a lefty with obscene stuff who can head a rotation. Same goes for Jesus Luzardo. Milwaukee has the system to land one of them.

That's nothing to be concerned about.  Just lessens the prospects they have to give up in return, can ask the Mets to kick in some cash to offset the option, and if Manaea continues to pitch well he will likely decline the option to try to get a multi-year deal.

If Manaea needs TJ surgery, that option will absolutely be something to be concerned about.

He hasn't missed a start this season and I don't see anything about him having any elbow issues. Where did you read that?

Point is pitcher injuries are becoming more common (exhibit A: Milwaukee Brewers). You can't dismiss player options, especially with pitchers.

It is Garrett Crochet or Jesus Luzardo for me. I would center a deal around our young outfielders and go from there. I am beginning to sour on Frelick as a prospect and question his overall ceiling as a player. I think I would start with him.

I think the Mets make a lot of sense, between Severino, Manaea, and Quintana if he gets a bit better. Severino would be my target, Manaea would be an OK get.  Manaea's option wouldn't scare me away completely but it would reduce the price I would pay for him.

Flaherty would be a great option if the Tigers continue to fade. I think his price might be a little higher.

I have been wondering if there might be a way to package some relievers to Texas. When Scherzer, DeGrom, and Mahle get healthy there they will have like 8 quality starters. Jon Gray for Devin Williams would be interesting to me, they each have a year of control left, Gray has been spectacular this year and the Rangers wouldn't do that now, but come late June that trade could be a perfect win win.

Andrew Heaney for Payamps might be more economical.

Then just ask the Mets to kick in some cash to buy the option down, contingent on him getting injured and needing surgery before the end of this season, or a PTBNL contingent on him getting injured.  Not anything to be concerned about.
