the strike zone is large

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Cardinals fans calling for robots.

Ball outside followed by ball inside both called strikes.

Most of the time. A little inconsistent. But if he ump keeps giving Sonny Gray that strike just off the outside plate to right handers, it's going to be a long day.

Gray looks fantastic. Was hoping Brewers would play on him this offseason. Would have been great addition. Would have cost Sanchez and Junis.

He's throwing that good fastball and curve for strikes, a deadly combination.

Gray got $75 million guaranteed.

Eh not really close. Those two guys cost 1 year and 14 million. Sonny gray costs a minimum of 80 million dollars with a no trade clause going into his age 36 season. I doubt he will be a good value at 36 and 35 million dollars.

I will agree it's not close but Gray seems to be getting better and better. I don't necessarily see him falling off too badly in just two years so I think he's more likely to be a good value than not.

It's a great pitcher's duel so far but Rea is going to blink first and that'll be the game.

Never doubt the guts of Rea,

He's got 13 different pitches, so we'll be ok.

Yea gotta say this is a  heck of a performance by Rea to get through all this traffic.

I also went to double check Gray's contract with how great he's looked.  Yea that 3rd year at that age makes it tough but all in all its probably going to fine barring injury.   For the Brewers to do it though you probably needed one less year or an option on it, or just to have it be less per year.

Its at least in the realm of something they could've pulled off but 25 mil per year for guys in their mid 30s is generally an area to stay away from, even if once in a while someone defies the odds. And Gray's game/style does seem to be the type that could defy it, barring injury

The Brewers have had a strange run distribution so far.

Usually I think of runs scored per game falling on something of a bell curve peaking around 4 or 5 with a tail to the right for the high scoring games.

The Brewers distribution so far represents a feast or famine barbell with 8 games with 7 runs or more and 8 of 3 runs or less with only 3 games of 4, 5, or 6.

Today is looking like it’s going to fall on the left side of the curve.
