Does Counsell seem uncomfortable in Chicago? Genuinely

I hope so.

I haven't seen any post game press conferences, but I hope they are hammering him with questions that the Milwaukee media never had the guts to ask when he was here.

I was fine with him leaving, and we haven't missed a beat, but watching him squirm, and possibly second guess his decision to leave is truly awesome!

The Craig Counsell Effect On The Chicago Cubs and is not well loved by the fans right now.

Cubs Justin Steel gives up 5 runs in 4 innings to open the second half of the season.

And there were a number of soft contact bloops and bleeders that found the outfield grass. Some bad Cubs’ luck. You just hate to see it!

Yup the misfortune of the Cubs saddens me, LOL

As I currently own and operate a Cubs site, I won't publicly dance on their grave. But damn, are fans up in arms about that team. And they should be. The Cubs should be spending more money than they are and I'm not seeing a lot to like about Hoyer's administration. He's not terrible or anything but his approach isn't exactly inspiring, either.

And I believe the Cubs payroll is already 90,000,000 more than the Brewers.

Their roster wasn't that good last season and they barely made any additions to improve. What a shock, they suck again.

I hate the Scrubbies with a passion , not because of fans from Illinois, but because of all the fans born in Wisconsin and just the  unfounded superior air that they have . that being said , they are just a good winning streak away from being right back in it! I'll dance on their grave when they are mathematically eliminated!

That would be a good winning streak to be back in but what fears me more is a bad Brewers loosing streak.

Jed Hoyer is conservative to a fault. He needs to take bigger risks, he has the ability to play in deeper water than he does.

Is it Hoyer or the Ricketts doing so?

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

Both, I think. Ricketts won’t allow Hoyer to spend where the Cubs should be spending and Hoyer is very conservative about how he hands out that money.

That might be why they hired him. The ultimate decision on how much to spend is determined by the person who's money it is.

Absolutely, and it should be more than that given baseball's economic system and the sheer market weight of the Cubbies.

While true, the Ricketts did take on a bunch of additional debt soon after purchasing the club with the stadium renovations and surrounding venue upgrades/property purchases - and then went through multiple seasons with it generating minimal revenue because of COVID....they can't cry poor by any stretch, but I'm sure the balance sheet needs a few years to unwind from all of that.

I also happen to think their payroll is plenty high right now to be the big market bully of this division, but I think they've spent that money poorly.  Giving Hoyer another $50-75m a season to spend on payroll isn't the auto-improvement it should seem to be.
