What should he have done differently in the 9th? He has to face 3 guys. The leadoff walk was terrible but then he got the next guy. Who should have come in to face Alonso?

I am beyond disappointed, and I've had my moments where I've been critical of Murphy, but this isn't it. There isn't a manager in baseball who would've done something other than bringing Devin in for the 9th, and there isn't a manager in baseball who would have had such a short leash with him to pull him after the minimum for Alonso.

He clearly was out of control out there and should’ve had a visit and pulled him probably before the Winker at bat and visited before the Alonzo at bat. I never said Williams should’ve have been in.

But Williams and the 1/2 the lineup that disappeared are obviously what killed the team

I said I’ll take where this franchise is vs the 70s or late 90s and making the playoffs better than not but GD this is just so depressing. I can tell myself they would have lost to the Phillies or Dodgers or Padres but it still sucks.

What sucks most is knowing they will not ever win it all in my lifetime. This game is too unfair and too set up for the big spenders to win when it matters.

Yes I will be as emotionally invested as ever in 9 months but it just is a bummer knowing you’re rooting for the impossible.

One of the most crushing losses in Brewers history………Murph goes to Mears and he has a dominant inning……..has Freddy pitch the 8th…….3 up 3 down.

Devin with a 2 run lead………and he can’t get it done……..

life of a Brewers fan…….playoff heartbreak……..have to lose in the most excruciating way possible…..with our elite closer on the mound.

feel so bad for the kids like Chourio, Mitchell and Sal who came up so big…….

I understand the crushing disappointment and anger but I generally choose to get philosophical after these types of things. I'm hurt and disappointed too, the whole Lucy pulling the ball away at the last second trope has gotten old with this franchise. But time and again I just come back to this being the nature of sports. There's a winner and a loser, a hero and a goat. Someone is going home bitterly disappointed. Maybe someday it won't be us. Maybe.

I come away from this season, and even this tough loss, incredibly optimistic. We have some dawgs in that clubhouse. Adames will be gone. We'll surely miss his regular season bat BUT a new storyline emerges - that's entertainment for me. Williams will most likely be traded for a decent haul of prospect(s) or player(s). Another intriguing storyline. My Minor League season essentially never ends with Winter Leagues upcoming and Rule Five and MInor League Free Agency and then the International signing period. There's just too much Brewers baseball to care about (for me, personally) to hang my hat all on the Brewers needing to succeed in the post-season. This was an improbably entertaining and successful season. The future is very bright for that clubhouse. They have the right manager managing this group. We have some really nice chips at Double and Triple-A I will look for next steps with. The Brewers will keep doing their thing. I will keep dreaming big and be fully prepared to accept the results, regardless. Devastating loss tonight? No. Disappointing? Yes.

But, hey. We have Jackson f'ng Chourio for 10 more years. This was his rookie season. I'm going to let that sink in all off-season. We have a superstar in a small market. I'll consider this akin to Giannis' first post-season. Plenty of hope left in the tank.

Great post. That's what's great about this game. It always delivers something. I was literally too nervous to even watch the 8th and 9th innings, but that feeling of being utterly wrapped in something you can't control matters. It's meaningful and worthwhile. I don't have the words to describe how, but there isn't another feeling like it.

I probably will be. But I love baseball and the Brewers. I could root for some front runner, but I'll stick with my team.

After watching the 55 season, I’m just about done with this team.

Long live 1982.

This is 100% on wall puncher himself.

Add Hoskins, Ortiz, and especially the 2 supposed-to-be key hitters Contreras and Adames to that list

Too bad this isn’t basketball. Still need more than one player. It’s never going to happen for the Brewers.

Well, let me introduce you to a name:

Jesus Made

Just wait...just you wait. He'll start 2025 in Low-A Carolina by-passing the Complex entirely. Just like Chourio. Yet, all his numbers and all the discourse in the prospect circles? He is coming here well ahed of where Chourio was. We have a legitimate second superstar prospect on our hands. This is a massive storyline coming into the 2025 season.

Maybe it never happens for the Brewers in our lifetimes. Maybe. But, I'm a firm believer when your process is sound and consistent the results will eventually follow. I inherently trust the Brewers process. I see it year-in and year-out.

Feel bad for Ueck. Really wanted the Brewers to win one for him one of these years as he has invested so much into this organization.  Who knows how long he will be on the call any longer 😢

I too get philosophical at times like these.  I realize that the one constant through all the years has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It's been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But baseball has marked the time.

Who would you have gone with in the 9th? You wouldn't have put Devin Williams in with a 2-0 lead in the 9th, your AS closer whose whole job literally revolves around this role and who has excelled in it his entire career?

I'm sorry, but this is the definition of hindsight.

By the Winker AB the lead was gone, so I don't know what difference that would have made. A mound visit? I think we're stretching there. I don't know that Devin was out of control. He threw some strikes but he tried to nibble too much with Lindor and lost him. Then he made a bad pitch to Nimmo. If he came into the game and threw 12 balls and 0 strikes and immediately loaded the bases for Alonso, I'm probably with you that you have to make a move. But that's not what happened.

Funny thing at no time did I feel confident the Brewers would win.

I felt confident until the moment it was clear that Devin could not locate his fastball.

He’ll probably request a trade before his contract expires. It’s a Brewer thing.

There were a whole page of posts of people that felt good that Devin was going to come in and slam the door easily, which unfortunately did not happen.

Lol if you couldn’t see that Williams was missing terribly then that’s on you

Yes we were all hoping but he choked again in the postseason.

I’m still in shock. Not really mad, just disappointed. That has to be the most painful loss in Brewers history. Especially considering how they had turned the series around, and they were 2 outs away.

This franchise is so incredibly well managed at all levels, but it’s a sports team and at the end of the day the players have to go out there and execute. They didn’t. But as long as Attanasio owns this team I know they will be back here again.

Hell of a run, but crushing defeat! I am excited to see what this team will look like next year, and what they can do.

Does Williams get the Grisham treatment and sent out of town?

So does this mean the Mets are going to the World Series. You know whoever beats the Brewers in the playoffs goes. Should put some money down.

I, for one, am more than ready for this particular trend to end. Doesn't even matter to me that it's the Mets. I'm just done with the same thing happening every time.
