Someone in another thread said how LAA were going to increase payroll this year and my first thought was "Why?".   Well this looks like that person was correct.   And the Angels will continue to be the Angels and continue to lose.   Odds that Soler is traded at the deadline?

That's the same exact thing I thought.

Unless they're REALLY going to and they go and get Burnes and Soto...and Trout stays healthy...and then maybe Rendon decides he enjoys playing Baseball, they still won't be as good as 4-5 teams in the AL. 

Eat a chunk of Trout's salary, deal him, take back prospects, start the rebuild already.

I'd be curious what the market would give up for Trout at this stage?

Info points for any discussion. has about 6/223 left on his deal and turns 34 during next season.   LAD would probably just take the contract off their hands.  Or NYY too if they lose Soto.

If you took 85M out of the(edit-thought he had 5 years left) ~223 he's owed the next 6 years, I think you get back a couple of top 100 prospects. I think that's a fair bargain for the right team. 

It doesn't matter, they won't do it...but I don't know why. What's the difference between the Rockies and Angels? The City they play in?

His contract is enormously underwater.

At least coming into 2023, he had been hurt but still performing at an elite level with a 645 PAs of 179 wRC+ over 2021-22 adding up to eight WAR.

Now heading into 2025, he has been even more hurt and his production has fallen off considerably with only 488 PAs of 135 wRC+ the last two years for only four WAR.

Projecting him for even ten WAR over the next six years seems pretty generous given his current trajectory so the Angels would need to eat over $100M just to get a marginal prospect or two back in return.

I have a feeling Ohtani is the next in the fall off a cliff line. He's going to be going back to double duty next season which will be the first time he does that in his 30's.

I hope a general pirates fan gets lucky to find that card as opposed to some collector who isn't even a pirates fan.  I would take an equivalent offer from the Brewers if there were an equivalent Chourio card an I found it.
